Why this business was started
I started this business because I had sold various products in the dog niche over the course of 2 years on various channels and projects, and knew it would be a good bet to build a brand around the passion and love customers have for their dogs.
The reason of selling this business
I run a portfolio of Shopify stores and I am looking to sell a few of them off to allocate my focus on different stores, funnels, and strategies separate from brand building. I'm not passionate enough about the niche or brand building in general to give this brand the attention it needs. I prefer shorter term direct run type projects, and this has turned into a longer brand play. My opportunity cost is also at an all time high with other projects so I decided it was time to part ways with this project.
The brands current status: it has been mostly dormant over the past 6 months or so because I have not had the time to put in the work. Even during this down period, I was able to produce $58,000 in revenue from July until today without running paid ads. I used SMS marketing, Email marketing, and "coasted" on the subscription members to keep things lean and extremely profitable. I probably averaged about 2 hours a week on this during this time.
With the right amount of effort and work put in, this brand could be shocked back to life and gain its momentum back. If and only if you are willing to put in the work.
What's involved in running this business
Marketing: Email marketing, sms marketing, relationships with customers, digital ads. You could do this yourself, hire someone internally, or use an agency to fulfill this need. Supply chain: Communicating and ordering with our suppliers, tracking the manufacturer to fulfillment center process, communicating with our fulfillment center, ensuring deliverability to customers. I have agents that do this for me on my team, and would be willing to keep them on this project. Current connection with fulfillment center would remain intact as well. Customer service: Reamaze – create/manage email tickets (about 80% of CS volume) and phone lines also through Reamaze. I have agents staffed here as well that could remain on this project. Product development: This store comes with a large catalog of products (matching collar and bracelet combos, windchimes, jewelry, t-shirts, and various other designs) however the opportunity in the space is endless (dog beds, treats, leashes, food, and the list goes on). The existing buyers need a fresh product promoted to them in order to see a spark in the buying behavior.

Would be able to use the existing fulfillment center partnership I have which would give you full access to dropshipped products such as t-shirts, sweatshirts, and anything else that requires a screen printer. The suppliers from India and China are used for custom products such as the jewlery, collar and bracelet combo, and windchimes.
How to grow this business
With over 38,000 customers, 300 subscribers paying $9.95 a month, an active email list of 23,000, a database of over 100,000 customers and leads, a highly active Facebook group of 17,000+ dog lovers, and a catalog of over 50 products (many of them have scaled individually), a lot of the leg work has already been done. I would HEAVILY focus on these people via email marketing and personal relationships to keep costs low and profit high to start out. While the existing catalog will be good to attract new customers via paid ads, launching new dog products to the existing people is where the biggest upfront potential lies. Building on or revamping the membership is one if not the biggest opportunities with this - a monthly box, recurring dog food, hygiene products - the opportunities are endless with wherever you want to take it.
Skills to have
If you do not have a proficient understanding of ecommerce, I would highly recommend obtaining a mentor to guide you through the learning phase. You need to know how to run a global supply chain: communication with suppliers, tracking bulk orders until they arrive at the fulfillment center, and managing orders directly to your customer. You need skills in customer service, email marketing, social media marketing, and how to operate a Shopify store. You must either use an accountant or be proficient with a tool like quickbooks.
