Why this business was started

I was unsure if I was to return to employment when I started a family and created this store as I was passionate about the products. I did end up returning to full-time employment and this store has been totally neglected for quite some time. Between young kids and my job there is no time for it. Most sales are through the eBay platform connected to the Shopify site as I run zero marketing campaigns to the online store. I get occasional organic sales on top of eBay sales. There are thousands of products that could be added to the store. In recent times there is a great demand for these products with enquiries received daily. With increased demand in the products and more enquiries coming in, I just do not have the capacity to manage it.

The reason of selling this business

I have built good relationships with the suppliers and I am passionate about the products. The transactions with customers are generally very straight forward. Customers are usually professionals or buying for companies. They are low hassle. The suppliers are also deeply passionate about their products and the quality is very good. There is so much potential to grow the business with some time and effort. Most sales as I said are from eBay because we do not advertise at all. We have a good eBay rating and good reviews. With the increased demand and enquiries coming in I have decided to sell and price very reasonably, well under the Shopify evaluation for a quick sale.

What's involved in running this business

All I do currently is fulfil orders when they come in by emailing suppliers. With one supplier I just place an order online. We may answer a few questions every week or so - this has increased in the last four months as demand has really increased for these products.
On a usual day I would send an simple email with each order to the main supplier. Stock inventory could be managed better. I literally do not do anything to update products or check in with suppliers regularly around stock. I maintained an excellent eBay rating up until the pandemic but with this increased demand of products it has slipped as more orders were coming in and I just had no capacity to manage it all. There has been minor global supply and freight impacts with covid as well as some customers not super happy about delayed freight times but this is also due to covid and out of our hands. eBay relies on quick dispatch. In the case there has been a couple of delays with stock I always reach out to the customer and almost every time they are more than satisfied to wait with a small discount applied. Spending time on customer communication is key. I had set up an automatic stock inventory updating system through an app with one major supplier who carries thousands of products. When it stopped working I didn't address the issues. This could be set up again.

    • Run ad campaigns (I have not run ads for a long time due to no time to manage. Store has remained profitable nevertheless with eBay and organic sales).
    • Add way more products! I have not added any products for quite a while as I have so neglected this store. There's so, so many more products to add!!!
    • Build on SEO - I have not put much effort at all into this.
    • Review other sales platform opportunities such as Amazon AU, mydeal etc -Develop B2B sales campaigns
    • Social media
    • Capitalise on the current demands for home office equipment!
