Why this business was started

I validated this business idea early 2019. I look at many factors when determining which business idea to start next. This business had many positive attributes that led to its eventual formation. Pre-sales numbers were strong, and that is my biggest consideration. The tattoo industry as a whole is growing, which has caused growth in both permanent and temporary tattoo companies. There are big players in the temporary tattoo industry, including Inkbox and Momentary Ink. But no one is targeting the children's temporary tattoo market. This product is a completely new take on children's tattoos and there are no big players in this space. It's truly one-of-a-kind and has huge potential to become the brand name for children's temporary tattoos.

The reason of selling this business

This is what I do. I love starting businesses, taking them from $0-$1M in revenue, and then selling them to start the next one. I love the creating something brand new that the world has never seen before and creating a brand's identity. This will be the third e-commerce business I will have sold and I will continue to repeat the process. The next stage for this business $1M-$10M will require a whole new skill set. Delegation and leadership will be crucial to get to that next step. It could also continue to be ran at its current level, and make an owner a very comfortable salary for years to come.

What's involved in running this business

Simplified logistics is one of the best parts of this business. The product is small, light, and inexpensive which makes for easier supply chain management. Manufacturing lead time is 1.5 months from the time you place the order to the time the product is in your possession. You can store a lot of product in a small space so a large warehouse is not necessary. Day-to-day logistics include fulfilling orders, ordering from suppliers, marketing, and working with artists to create new designs.

We wanted to grow the customer base as quickly as possible so we were very aggressive with our ad spend. Once we felt we had a solid base of loyal customers, we switched our strategy to optimize for 20% net profit and have hit that goal in recent months. The business is agile and can support whatever strategy you choose to implement. Run aggressively and capture the market and opportunity to become the brand name for children's tattoos, or run conservatively and carve out nice profits for the owner(s). We recently started selling on Amazon and have a little over $10,000 in revenue over the last two months that doesn't report in Shopify.

    Continue to diversify sales and customer acquisition channels. Amazon, flash sale sites, and retail stores would be an excellent place to start. TikTok is becoming and increasingly effective customer acquisition channel and would line up nicely with this visual product. We've seen success in influencer marketing and that could also become a very strong customer acquisition channel.

    The basics of running an e-commerce business would be accounting, supply chain management, inventory management, marketing and sales. These are skills that will be vital in continuing this, or any e-commerce business.
