Why this business was started
Ten years ago, while I was a new parent with a child starting school, I found myself on a quest to buy a lunch bag. Frustrated with the available choices in stores, I decided to design a modern and functional insulated lunch box that would have an appeal to all age groups. My background is in graphic design plus I had some previous entrepreneurial experience with product design. During the prototype process, I was shocked to discover that everyday bags sold in stores could contain harmful and toxic materials. As a result, it became my priority to make sure that the materials I used would be free of toxic materials like lead, PVC, BPA and Phthalates. What started with one product in two colors has evolved into a unique, vibrant and modern collection of insulated lunch boxes and bag organizers in various colors and prints for kids and adults, as well as children's backpacks. I have custom designed each product to be original with a minimal, clean, modern design using fresh color palettes.
The reason of selling this business
As a designer/creative at heart, running a business has not been my strong point. My products have received notable press from The Today Show, The Washington Post, Good Housekeeping and the Food Network to name a few. But the company has just one person doing everything and that person is me.
My goal was to grow the company, but then 4 years ago, my life took a big turn in a different direction and since then, I’ve struggled with my new goals in life which has been at odds with running my own business. This is why my traffic and sales have declined since 2016 because I basically put the company in a state of pause. My goals today have changed and I want to return to fine arts and maybe start teaching. It's been very difficult to let go of a company that I created but I truly believe that the brand has so much potential to grow and be successful outside of myself, but it needs a team (more than one person) with the passion, drive and skills to make it successful.
What's involved in running this business
I’ve already created a brand, designed unique products, manufactured the products overseas and imported the products to a fulfillment warehouse. I own the trademark on my brand and logo and own the website domain. Years of building up a respectable brand is already established and the Shopify payments have been pre-paid until 11/2022. I've purchased the Turbo Theme by Out of the Sandbox which has great support, easy to use and I've added customizations to the website to make it beautiful. I take care of the bookkeeping and do all the product and lifestyle photography myself.
Managing the business includes running the Shopify web store and blog, social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest), customer service and relaying orders to the warehouse.
In the immediate, I highly recommend running advertising campaigns with Google and Facebook which I haven't done.
Because this is a brand, I also recommend eventually introducing new styles, colors and prints and trying some trade shows since that is where most retail stores will place their wholesale orders. I do have many retail store contacts which I will pass on to the new owner. And I can recommend which trade shows to do.
I've already set up my products on Amazon through Vendor Central but I recommend that the new owner set up an Amazon seller account which can be done easily through Shopify.

Logo and branding assetsEverything will be transferred to the new owner including ownership of the registered trademark of the logo. A certificate of the trademark registration will be mailed and I will contact USPTO with the new owner's name and contact information. All website and social media images will be transferred to the new owner via DropBox or mailed on a DVD. The company has a license for 110 barcodes and currently uses 41. The license is paid annually and renews in January 2021. This license will be transferred to the new owner.
Personal support after saleI can provide up to 3 months of training and support to the new owner if necessary and I'm happy to collaborate during that time on anything design-related should the new owner need my advice. Support can be via e-mail or phone calls.
Product photosAll hi-res photos are digital files that will be transferred to the new owner by DropBox or mailed on a DVD.
SuppliersI have supplier contacts for the factories overseas, a 3rd party quality control inspector and 3rd party accredited lab for testing the materials. I also have an international freight shipper contact as well. Any contact I have, I can provide to the new owner.
