Why this business was started

We are a mid niche store focusing in the tactical, outdoor and men’s military related fashion products. The store was started to provide customers high quality outdoor niche products at affordable rates. I started advertising the store mainly in august as a side project.

We wanted to start something that can be scaled easily therefore we chose Outdoor niche, It can be easily expanded to other niches like Hiking, Hunting, Camping & Fishing.

The store was in testing phase for some time and we mainly started scaling it in end of 2019.

The reason of selling this business

Mainly, because of the my country's Goods and Service Tax (GST) & currency conversion fees from banks which are really eating up the margins. I have to pay around 20% Goods and Service Tax to Facebook (which is nil in other countries like US) and pay a heavy Indian rupee to USD conversion charge to my bank accounts.

The store makes a solid 25% margin but because of these taxes, I am left with a lesser margin which wouldn't happen to somebody who is running the same store from US, UK or a tier 1 country which has better ease of business.

Also, I started this store as a side project, I am mainly a full time graphic designer by profession. All graphic work you see on the store is created by me professionally. Another main reason for selling this store is basically I need time to focus more on my main profession which is web/graphic designing. I run a full time agency.

What's involved in running this business

We fulfil the orders via the online dashboard of our 3rd party fulfilment company which is very easy to operate. You basically have to make a payment only every day for the new orders.

Digital Marketing is the major skill that is important for the business since most of the customers are coming through Facebook and Google Ads. Not very hard thing to master and I can guide you in the initial stages if you don't have an experience with those.

You don't have to deal with the suppliers, since the 3rd party fulfillment company takes care of that with sourcing of products, packaging & quality control.

    How to grow this business

    I would add more products in the store, mainly in fishing, hiking and camping niche products. That can increase the Average order value and therefore will lead to more profits. I would also do better email marketing campaigns, currently we just sent regular newsletter emails in every 2 weeks because i couldn't find time to create the content for emails but if you can setup the email campaigns right and more frequent, then this email list can give good returns easily.

    We already had great relationship with our suppliers and I can introduce them to you, they always prioritize our orders and even sent couple of lots to US warehouses after i said them to do so. In a long term, you can easily get your products shipped to their US warehouses and deliver to your customers in just 4-9 days via USPS and Fedex services.
