Why this business was started

NOTE: since Shopify puts this section first, please note that I haven't done anything with this company in 2020. The asking price includes all my inventory (worth $6000 at retail price), the website, Instagram and Facebook accounts, existing suppliers, existing retail network, and my sales list of about 600 companies who I have identified but not contacted.

I'm a big fan of the outdoors, and I noticed that lots of hammock companies were selling hammocks without tree straps, so I started a company that sold the hammocks with the straps included. That way, our hammocks are easy to use so just about anyone can get started with one. Today, our hammocks are easy to use, built to last, and made in the USA and are sold in 4 retail locations with many more interested for the 2021 season.

I'm a college student about to graduate. After I leave school, I don't think I'll have the time to keep running the company.

What's involved in running this business

The great thing about this company is that everything can be automated. I had a freelancer who ran my marketing, and I've identified freelancers who can manage social media and web design. My suppliers are great, and they get the job done without any instruction needed. My day to day involves general administration, shipping orders (which you can also outsource, but I like to add a personal note with orders) and sales which I mainly do through email with some phone calls. I've developed systems for all of this so it's pretty turnkey.

    How to grow this business

    I would work on online marketing and expanding in retail. Right now, I have 3-4 retail locations already, and lots of contact information you can use to get into more stores. Retail is important because it's a stable source of income, and most brands in this space can't figure out how to get on the shelves of stores. I've done the hard part in proving that the product sells, so it's much easier to add stores - all you need to do is tell them what we're doing in other successful locations. In addition, I've built a good following on Instagram and Facebook, collected a small amount of product reviews, and developed both an influencer program and strategic partnerships with 2 colleges in the USA. Now, I haven't done much in the past year but the assets still exist and you can use them to get running quickly.
