Business Story

Why this business was started

It was not totally intentional. As I made my own bows for my first daughter ten years ago, I had extra materials and I heard about a site called Etsy. It was easy to post a few of my bows. Well, they were well received and the first few years we experienced great growth on Etsy. In 2014 we created out shopify site and the rest is history.

The reason of selling this business

I have a five kids, ages 3 through ten. I feel the need to be present with them. Ten years growing A Little Lady has been great, but I am losing the drive I once had for it. It's been a great source of income for our family while my husband finished grad school and we got into our first home. The income is less critical now and I want to be home with my family.

What's involved in running this business

For the owner: Purchasing fabric, running the Instagram page, determining bow quantities needed with seamstresses, uploading products to the website, coordinating w/ order fulfillment company.

We have a few contractors: Content marketer that does monthly photo shoots and an email newsletter, bookkeeper (my husband), customer service (5-10 hrs/month), and an order fulfillment company.

This business was founded: over 7 years ago

    Seller‘s Advice

    How to grow this business

Multiple growth opportunities are left untouched given Marie's desire to first be a stay-at-home mom. Those opportunities include: 1. Digital Marketing - investment in IG/Facebook ads, re-targeting, etc. None of this is done today. 2. Branding - Website has not been updated since 2014. Product packaging outdated. 3. Operations - Order fulfillment is inefficient and should be moved to a fulfillment center. Today, three people make one bow, can easily be one. 4. Product expansion - Strong customer base, new products have proven to drive meaningful growth

    Skills to have

    1. An eye for baby/little girl fashion.
    2. Bows are made by seamstresses, however a basic understanding of sewing is helpful.

    Marie G.Current store owner
I am a mother by day and a bow maker by night. A Little Lady Shop began when I wanted headbands for my first daughter ten years ago. Fast forward to today, I have five kids and I can't keep up with the growing business. I am ready to focus all of my time and energy on them. My family and I live in Utah. I enjoy Orange Theory, good food, trips with my husband, and being creative.
