Why this business was started

Learning about selling products and drop shipping in a niche we are passionate about is why we decided to open this store.

Additionally, we wanted to learn these skills to transfer this knowledge to our other business.

At the same time, starting this business was also a way to increase our revenue streams of income and at the same time gain knowledge about Facebook advertising and email marketing.

We chose to focus on the women’s cycling niche, coming out of our own experience as cyclists. We’ve always struggled to find cute and stylish women’s cycling gear and we wanted to tap into an underserved market.

The reason of selling this business

Our second business is taking off and we no longer have the time nor the mental capacity to handle the two businesses that are really different from one another. After 2.5 years of running this business it is time to pass on the baton to a new owner.

Successfully running this business calls for an understanding of the products and the best way to sell them based on the audience needs. On a practical level, this calls for researching unique products, advertising them on Facebook and/or Google as well as email marketing. Responding promptly to all customer inquiries and questions is also key to success. Opened in June 2017, this niche store is dedicated to providing stylish gear for active women.

The majority of the audience comes from the USA, and the other two main markets are Canada and Australia. The audience is primarily between the ages of 45 - 64 years, and they ride for fun, to keep fit and often in groups.

The store provides stylish cycling gear, accessories, apparel and some active sportswear related items.

Customer service is a key strength and this is accomplished by proactively responding to all questions and inquiries as well as providing guidance on sizes.

Currently, the majority of traffic comes from Facebook followed by direct and organic source.

The store has a strong existing customer base and a regular repeat purchase cycle. Our audience rides in groups and adding a referral program is an opportunity for growth. What work have you put into the store?

We created the store from scratch. After initial trial and error, we landed on a lucrative audience of female cyclists. We also have optimized the Shopify store with apps in place making it a turn-key business for a new owner. We have SOP’s, KPI’s, ad copy and creatives processes in place. Over the last two years we have developed key relationships with a few suppliers and they are available to support the business growth.

    The store has a lot of potential for growth.

    We have a number of key suppliers we’ve built strong relationships with. That said, there are opportunities to improve the sizing and answering the customers needs, in particular, larger sizes.

    The shipping time can also be shortened either by using an agent and/or by warehousing products.

    The store has a loyal customer base and many ladies ride in groups. Adding a referral program would be an opportunity for growth.

    To improve the customer experience and exclusivity, there is an opportunity to create branded products and packaging.

    Future growth can take the form of selling bundled items such as; cycling jersey, shorts, socks, gloves as one package.

    Finally, our store focuses on the female niche, you may choose to experiment with including a male audience.
