Business Story
Why this business was started
Wanted to make passive income so I found a niche and contacted suppliers to setup dropshipping engagements. Over time, we have climbed up the value chain and started manufacturing top selling products ourselves which drastically increased our margins. I launched my shopify store before selling on Amazon and have seen much higher sales revenue from Amazon so most of my energy has been pivoted to Amazon.
The reason of selling this business
I have 2 other ecommerce businesses, 1 SAAS business, and a consulting agency. I can get higher ROI from other investments and only have limited time.
I don't have enough time to give this business what it needs to really go to the next level and I'm not particularly passionate about the niche enough to prioritize it ahead of my other businesses. I've been passively operating this business since 2014 so it's been a good run but probably best for me to explore exiting the business now.
The ideal owner would love pets, animals so they can appreciate the product experience being offered and create better content marketing and engagement with audiences.
What's involved in running this business
manage Philippines team operating written SOPs for product listings and order management (2 VAs, 1 PM)
reorder products from suppliers in China and USA
manage warehousing and freight forwarding
replenish inventory to Amazon
Description
General description
Niche eCommerce website in Pet / Veterinary Care Industry.
Monthly sales revenue on Shopify = $3,000 approx Monthly sales revenue on Amazon = $30,000 approx
Profit Margin = 25% (across 2 channels), Monthly Profit = $8,250 approx
I've built and managed this entire business in Asia working less than an hour per day on it. With the right owner, I think they could very easily double sales revenue within a year.
I simply don't have the time to manage it anymore (have 2 other ecommerce sites, do high hourly rate consulting in APAC, have SAAS business). I also still live in Asia so the time zone difference isn't optimal either.
Why should someone buy this store?
Tremendous opportunity to grow this store. I've managed it into the ground and it's still doing well. We have very strong supplier relationships that allow us to corner the market in our niche. We also have a very loved brand (in Shopify/Amazon) that makes us the go-to-source for our niche's products.
How can the future owner improve the business?
1) Open it to additional sales channels (wholesale and b2b). 2) PPC - no PPC campaigns are being run right now 3) Affiliate networks - no affiliate ads are being right right now 4) SEO - no SEO work being done right now 5) Optimize UX to improve conversion rate - conversion rate is very low right now 6) eMail Marketing - no email marketing being done right now 7) Go international - no active sales on international marketplace sites for this brand 8) Brand Awareness ad budget - vast majority of consumers do not know that a solution for this pet owner pain exists but once they find out, they are interested and love the product assortment
What work have you put into the store?
1) Built the store 2) Identified and negotiated contracts with dropship suppliers and product suppliers in APAC 3) Tried very basic facebook and google search marketing 4) Setup warehouse in Kentucky 5) About $100,000 in inventory value at warehouse in Kentucky
