Why this business was started
My partner and I saw that their was going to be an increase in demand because of the political climate in the country for American patriotic goods made here. With COVID this has increased significantly and I expect it to grow and stay a trend. I only spend a couple hours a week on the business as I have turned off advertising and all sales are organic right now. We spent a lot of money on SEO and unique content so with more time and attention this will really take off this holiday season. Any buyer can easily make 10 times the purchase price in the next 4 months with all the organic traffic we will get for gift searches. With our email and sms subscribers there is a lot of opportunity also within the community we have built.
We spent a lot of time and money buying a custom design. We also spent a lot of money getting significant backlinks ~1000 or so.
We also concentrated on customer service as our reviews can contest. We have a very loyal customer group that I haven't engaged properly with newsletters and SMS campaigns etc.. since the loss of my partner 6 months ago.
We have created a lot of backlinks and unique content to take advantage of the holiday season with organic traffic and I highly recommend you do the same.
We also have another domain and logo package I will give with this sale. That was really popular but because of our political beliefs and friends decided to change the name when we should have just run both as this other one was VERY popular on facebook.
The reason of selling this business
I started this with my partner who I lost at the beginning of COVID and I cant handle it and everything else at the same time right now. Plus it is hard for me to work on something we loved together and be able to concentrate on tasks needed without grieving. I would like to see someone take our vision and be able to take advantage of the holidays coming up.
What's involved in running this business
We spent a lot of time and reinvesting getting the business up and running. Now the business runs itself basically. You place orders as they come in. Customer interaction is minimal even though we have had 24 hour life chat and 800 number and answer all emails in an hour. I spend maybe 10 hours a week doing all this even less now that I have turned off advertising and all sales are organic and basically free money at this point. I have this all set to be automated after a certain time but I have ended up doing it myself anyways as I value customer satisfaction and still feel that devotion to the business even though it pains me.
You can add new products as sometimes suppliers will add new things as they release stuff or price updates. You get notified with any changes to your products pricing info etc. Their is also some other American artisans who have been recommended to us that we haven't added yet so there is plenty of room for expansion or removal of underperforming lines or products. I would be willing to give advice here.

SuppliersExcellent relationships with the suppliers. We will provide emails contact to suppliers we have relationships with who have reached out to us to offer thanks and advice. Plus we deal directly with the Chief of operations for any issues with direct communication and will provide those emails also. The rare time there is ever an issue it has always been resolved to mine and the customers satisfaction in a timely manner. They are excellent to work with.
How to grow this business
This store is going to be very popular in that time period with the increase in demand for American made and sourced products. With Black Friday coming up and all the searches for gifts we are going to have an amazing October Through December but I am emotionally too invested because of my loss to put in the time and effort to take this to the next level.
We were concentrating heavily on content marketing and backlinks. We get traffic daily to our blog and have some significant backlink base. I would do a weekly or biweekly blog content which is inexpensive $40~ for 1200 words to have written the way you want through writers we have set up already. Unique content is important and google values it highly.
The only real marketing we have done in the last 8 months is $70 a month on facebook retargeting. And between $50-300 a month on google ads. I have stopped all marketing recently.
We never utilized social media to its full potential besides facebook retargeting campaigns and our relationships with our artisans is excellent and they have recommended this to me. We do have social media accounts on twitter, facebook, instagram, weheartit, tumblr, pinterest, kit, juxtapost. With a estimate of 750 followers total. so plenty of room and already set up to grow. All these accounts and followers come with the sale.
We also haven't used influencers but have a list of several that would like to work with us who have high ratings and could be very beneficial.
We also utilize text messages for our rare abandoned check outs but were going to experiment with SMS campaigns as our closing rate for abandoned checkout SMS is over 40%.
I would also recommend using a newsletter weekly or biweekly also as that is very successful we have 689 subscribers to our newsletter currently. I haven't sent out a newsletter in about 6 months or so since my loss.
As you can see by the conversion report from June and July there is so much room to grow because of where the sales are coming from and I just can't concentrate on those areas right now and haven't been able to since March.
Also our google report right before I lost my partner we had separated out groups so we could concentrate advertising on the most profitable but he didn't get the chance to finish that. These two reports are with me working on the business for less then 10 hours a week for the last 6 months at least.
One important thing to note almost all our items are unique descriptions handwritten by us. Which is important for google and to separate ourselves from anyone else who might carry this product. I would recommend making sure if you add products you rewrite the descriptions and add meta tags to the photos. Every single photo in our store has a meta tag.
