Why this business was started
We decided to start this e-commerce business after prior success with another e-commerce business we owned and have since sold. We craved the flexibility to be able to work from anywhere, at any time. The 2 partners are brothers in this business. Mark - who looks after Facebook ads and marketing, and James - who designs, builds and runs the business operations.
Thanks to our recent success with e-commerce, we decided to find another product to advertise and start another e-commerce business.Together with my brother Mark, whom I own a Marketing business with, it was decided to start another brand. After a number of ideas, Laura (secretary) suggested a product to begin with based on needs and wants. We also needed an evergreen product that focussed on solving problems. After extensive and intensive research, into products suppliers and marketing, we had decided on our product. We noticed from friends and family that people wanted an easier way to use this product which we believe has contributed to our success and makes this product evergreen. In addition, the product is simple and easy to market.
There are also very few competitors which has contributed to the growth of the brand becoming an industry authority. We realised quickly that we could source our chosen product very cheaply. We decided the best and most cost-effective way to test the product would be to use the dropshipping model. However, after quick success and demand for the product, we decided to buy stock and self fulfil. Once we had formed a relationship with a supplier, agreeing a very competitive and exclusive price. Over the past 6 months, we have developed good relationships with our supplier and receive substantial discounts.
We have also sourced a UK based dropshipper – specialising in branded beauty products. We have not yet advertised any of the additional products on the website. These products can also be shipped worldwide.
Overall, the store is currently converting at 4.7%. Based on customer demand, we have tested next day delivery on the product, which returned a ROAS of 3 on Facebook. This has the potential to increase revenue by 50%. Because of this, our profit margins are high.
The reason of selling this business
We are currently operating as a partnership business. One of the partners is moving overseas to look after a personal project with his family. The business has grown every month since we started but the 2 persons involved have other businesses, so feel that we cannot continue to manage the ongoing growth of the website. In addition, the 2 persons have moved to different areas, in and out of the UK, so selling the business would be the most beneficial decision moving forward to continue and manage the huge growing potential of this brand. We have good relationships with suppliers and receive discounts, contact details will be provided to the new owner, a long with discounts. Other tasks include: responding to any customer emails which are minimal, processing refunds. However, these tasks can be completed by a VA. But takes around 30 minutes a day. As the business is marketed using paid advertising, then you would need to manage this each day. Training will be given. The ad accounts are running at a steady pace with a profitable ROI of 3 and above. We have spent the previous 6 months identifying and scaling Facebook ads, so the hard work has been completed. Because of this, it requires much less management. We would recommend hiring a VA to cover customer service tasks and also order fulfilment in order to focus on marketing the business, but not essential. How to grow this business
Sales would increase immediately by utilising Google marketing including ads with remarketing. Currently, ads are only run in the UK so we would test marketing campaigns in other countries. We only advertise one product, so running ads on other products on the website would increase sales immediately. We would also create multiple ad creatives on Facebook. We would grow our email list and launch an email marketing campaign. Social media marketing via content across Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. As beauty is a buyer intent, evergreen market, Influencer Marketing is a huge convertor in this niche. We have tried this with one Micro Influencer which led to an ROI of 12. We would also look to private label the sole product we are advertising. After a lot of success with one product and with self fulfilment, we would continue to buy stock in larger quantities, usingg fulfilment centres, but this is not essential. Branding would be beneficial. We would hire a VA to look after fulfilling orders and customer service tasks, which would allow our time to be spent on marketing. However, customer queries are not frequent. Please note that the site is currently live with live ads running. So the income is actually increasing everyday.
