Why this business was started

I'm a former photographer, and as a designer, I knew their design needs very well. I enjoyed so much creating resources for them to offer beautiful printed or digital products for their local clients after sessions. Over the years I expanded the business creating digital resources for creatives, like fonts, mockups, and products for creatives.

The reason of selling this business

This business has given me a lot of joy and money over the years. I've grown this empire by myself, no employees or staff until now (which I regret, since I'd grow even more). I became a mother a few years ago and I'm looking to change my lifestyle and career to something different.

I've tons of clients asking me for new collections, designs, and products. But I don't have the time and energy to create new content, which makes me so sad, since I know that if I publish new content they will buy it right away.

Selling digital products is the best and more profitable thing I've done, and this business has a lot to grown and give to the design and photography industry.

What's involved in running this business

This business is very low maintenance which makes it very profitable

  • Customer service: The product I offer is well made, so customer service is very low. But in some cases, I have to reactivate links or resend orders via email

  • Releasing new collections (optional and recommended): Releasing new templates and digital products (new collections, cards, marketing templates for photography studios, etc) - this is something you can do if you know about design, or you can hire someone that makes the design for you. The good thing about this is that you sell the design infinite times, so the profitability is incredible.

  • Email marketing: I use to send between 1-3 emails a week. I've grown a big email list which makes the business very profitable. There I announce new products, freebies, or sales. Every time I send an email sales pops up.

  • Running advertising campaigns (recommended): This is RECOMMENDED to get new clients, etc, as in any other business.

  • No fulfilling orders needed: Everything is automatized. So the client receives the download links after purchase. You don't have to do anything work after every purchase!! YES, you can make money while sleeping!!

  • No physical stock needed. All the products are digital.

There are 5 designers who provide new designs to the shop. I pay them 60% commission for each sale (I pay them every 1st of the month via Paypal). In case of sale they have to renew the contract with the new owner. Their work is not part of the sale of Birdesign.

    How to grow this business

    Birdesign has a huge potential to grow since it's a 100% digital business. So you can earn 95% of the revenue. I'd keep offering new designs, offering new collections accordingly to the seasons, and being in touch with the clients through social media and email marketing. The brand has a huge capacity to scale in a short period of time.

    Skills to have

    The owner should have knowledge of Adobe Photoshop. All the templates are created and editable with Photoshop, so basically knowing the software is the only requirement to be able to give support to your clients. I've worked for years in making the templates with high quality which makes the customer service very low, and most of the clients are satisfied on a regular basis.
