Why this business was started
A friend and I wanted to start a part time business. We decided to sell unique products that are owned by us (rather than another drop shipping company). This also provided us an opportunity to set up a booth during home and garden shows and similar.
The reason of selling this business
Neither of us are social media, e-mail marketing, or blog savvy. We have discussed hiring a person who specializes in this area to help us out but in the end, we decided to sell. It was fun while it lasted and now its time to move on.
We will support all customers, customer complaints (if any), and returns that were executed during our time as owners. We plan to have a clean handoff to the new owners with little to none issues during the transition.
What's involved in running this business
Since there are very few products, You can sell the items as-is. All tooling and vendors are in place for products manufacturing. If you would like to grow your product lines, you will need to understand mechanical development and work with vendors to order parts.
*Customer service - is minimal and mostly through e-mail. There are few returns on these products and happy customers. The product are high quality and no maintenance *Parts availability - All of our hardware that are used in our products are with suppliers that are reliable and have quick delivery. The custom parts (sheet-metal, blades) are with manufacturers both is the USA and China and we own tooling associated with these parts. *Fulfilment - is generally through UPS and primarily in the USA. We have shipped outside of the USA but currently prefer to keep the shipping costs low and provide limited access to these products outside the USA. However, there are no restrictions to ship worldwide. *Website and other online site maintenance is very little as this is not our strength. Basically the website is set-up and left alone Someone who has this skill-set can easily get the products visible to the public and greatly expand this business. We do have 'stores' on Amazon, e-bay, and Etsy but very little sales from those since we spend little advertising dollars or time on any of these sites. In general, our sales are about half through online sales and half at tradeshows (in-person) and local hardware store and we only do 2 or 3 tradeshows in a year (depending on the year)

However that part files, vendors, ordering, etc. will be valuable to the new owner. I will support the new owner for approximately 2 weeks after the purchase is final and general limited Q&A for approximately 3 months. I want the new owner to be successful but I also want a quick handoff. Additionally, I would be happy to discuss the project concepts that are not for sale and potential other opportunities that we have thought of to add additional products to the lake frontage tools and BBQ accessories. The new owner will own all of these concepts.

How to grow this business
This store sufferers from a lack of online presence including all of the social media sites. We do not send out marketing e-mail nor do we blog. There are very few YouTube videos showing the products. However, the products that we currently and have sold in the past are in demand - people find us with minimal effort on our part. Having an online presence would greatly grow this business. There are other product ideas that are related to the lake tool and BBQ items. We have had several discussion about adding these to the store - some sold out and we did not restock. I will share all these designs and design files with the new owner and am happy to discuss with serious buyers. The new owner will own everything - I do not plan to continue in this type of business.
