Why this business was started

The Būband is a totally new kind of support, a simple yet effective solution to a perennial problem. Without a viable alternative, many women have simply accepted painful breast bounce as something that must be endured, have doubled-up on sports bras, taped their breasts, or – as is the case for 1 in 5 women of all cup sizes – avoided physical activity altogether because of their breasts.

All the research demonstrates how sports bras, in their current form, have failed women. A study of 1,400 female marathon runners found that almost two-thirds suffered breast pain while running, despite the fact they were wearing a sports bra. Researchers found that if the breasts are not properly supported across their mid and upper parts – precisely where the Būband is designed to be worn – women risk irreparably damaging the Cooper’s Ligaments or internal structures of the breast.

The market is ready for this solution. Current trends in the sports bra industry include the growth of competitive running among women, athleisure and compression gear. Manufacturers are scrambling to perfect the sports bra, a garment that is so hooked into cultural stereotypes and that has such a lengthy and contradictory list of requirements, it consistently fails to work for everyone. Thankfully, the Būband only has one job – add extra support/compression to any bra, any size, any woman – and it does it well.

The reason of selling this business

I have spent four years building this amazing company from inception to growth. It has been an extremely rewarding experience (the business was named a Top 25 venture by SHEeo last year), however it's now time for someone else to inject new energy and ideas into the company. Make it an online lifestyle business or ramp-up growth through marketing, product development and/or a move into bricks and mortar retail.

What's involved in running this business

This is an extremely flexible business that allows you to work from home and put in as much or as little time as you like (i.e. lifestyle business vs growth). While I am responsible for the strategic direction of the company and put in time doing the day-to-day work, I have a phenomenal team of (contract-based, optional) team members in the areas of marketing, public relations, accounting, content creation, fulfillment, design and manufacturing to help me along the way. I also have brand ambassadors in Canada, the US, Australia and the UK. Keep all the team members, hire a new team or cut costs and do it all yourself (which I did for years!).
