Why this business was started

I have a strong love for organic & sustainable fashion that helps our children, the planet and the everyone who is part of the sustainable fashion production. I took great care and time sourcing beautiful organic clothes for my boys, while still living in Germany. After our return to Australia in 2014, people would comment on a daily basis about my children's clothes and would always ask me where I got them from. After a year I decided to take the step and import these brands from Europe. In September 2015 Elves in the Wardrobe launched. Unfortunately, besides my passion for organic clothes, I didn't know much about Ecommerce businesses and it was a very slow growing curve. Also, the ecommerce platform I launched my business from wasn't very sophisticated. In 2016, I changed platforms again to wordpress and worked with different SEO companies to improve traffic and visibility. Sadly wordpress wasn't working very well and in July 2017 Elves in the Wardrobe changed to Shopify and traffic + sales immediately doubled within the first months. At the same time I opened a local shop in Bellingen and was able to steadily grow the business and range. After the severity and damage of the fires in our local area in 2019, I decided to close the local shop. The local shop closed it's doors in March 2019, at the same time as the corona lock down was announced. Since then Elves in the Wardrobe's online presence, traffic and sales have grown.

The reason of selling this business

Sadly, due to some personal health issues I recently developed. I feel that I won't be able to give Elves in the Wardrobe the energy, time and attention required to take this business to the next level, which is very heartbreaking.

Processing, packing orders, updating products, loading up products. Customer request, emails. Customer care. Placing stock pre-orders and restocks. Newsletter writing, Social Media Promotion via Instagram and Facebook. Google my business updates. Currently I have a freelance SEO specialist and a local website support, who are helping me with growing traffic and online presence.

    How to grow this business

    There is a growing demand for organic & sustainable baby & children clothes as well as reusable nappies. For the next 5 years I would focus more on European/American labels as they are in high demand here in Australia. 1. Refining/Thinning out the range to the most popular brands 2. Expanding in the field of reusable/organic nappies, woolen clothes & linen 3. Focus on a good basic range that is always restockable, including socks, underwear, everyday shirts and shorts and nappies. 4. Well made good quality organic sustainable European Toys are really sought after. Expand on that, especially during festive seasons and summer months.
