I started the business after I was looking to turn an old motorcycle (a honda CB125) into a "cafe racer" style bike. This included modifying the bikes appearance and adding new style parts to give it the cafe racer appearance which is a popular style among the custom bike scene.
I struggled to find the parts I required on any websites so I had to search quite hard to find what I needed. After realising the demand for these items I realised that I could sell the items I had sourced for a profit. This was done via ebay and a shopify website. I made a simple shopify store and listings and the sales started immediately.
The first year of business generated nearly £50,000 GBP in turnover and nearly £10,000 GBP gross profit
The majority of the sales come from the ebay store which will be included within the sale. The rest are from the shopify store.
The business has a social media account on facebook which is included in the sale and has around 2500 likes. The demographic is very responsive to posts and sponsored posts gain quite alot of attention. The business would benefit from an instagram account and maybe a twitter but this has not yet been explored.
I had little experience in online businesses before this and the business would benefit greatly from someone with experience and who is looking to increase sales via a more active email marketing effort and possibly expanding into Amazon sales.
The business currently holds the stock of each item and ships out each order, however it could be adapted into a dropship style with ease. The business requires between 1-2 hours a day for emails and packing orders. This is a return of £130-£65 per hour going by the 2016/2017 accounts figures
The business is being sold due to a lack of time to maintain and grow the business further due to other commitments. The business can easily be grown from other marketing efforts or an increase in products as the suppliers have many other items within the niche which have not yet been purchased and listed to test their market interest.
Sales over the last year are less than the first year due to not being able to keep up with keeping items in stock as storage space and time has become limited.
