Why this business was started

In my research I realised how well people were doing via e-commerce stores. As I was retired and had time on my hands, I thought I could own and run an e-commerce store and make some money to supplement my retirement funds. I looked around for some time and checked out a variety of stores before settling on Charcoal Beauty mainly due to what I saw as the potential and future profitability. E-commerce, particularly in health and beauty is great because it is easy to market via channels like social media. The website www.charcoalbeauty.com ranks #1 for searches of trending "charcoal beauty" products. With a growing social media presence and email subscribers, there is an opportunity to dominate a hot niche.

The reason of selling this business

As stated, previous major health issues are the major reason, but I also have found that I am not savvy enough when it comes to promotion and advertising. I could have achieved so much more and done much better but as my health dragged me down so did my desire to make Charcoal Beauty work. I hate quitting but getting my health in shape is now my major concern.

    How to grow this business

    When I bought Charcoal Beauty the store was drop shipping from Ali Express which was all well and good except for the long delivery times of usually around four to six weeks with items going missing on a regular basis. I was getting complaint after complaint over missing shipments or long delays. The model just wasn’t working as well as it should. In between health issues I was able to turn Charcoal Beauty from a drop shipping business into a private label business. I had packaging designed, sourced a reputable supplier in China and discovered a fulfillment centre in the USA and Europe. I then had the items shipped to these centres and could therefore advertise two to four-day shipping and the cost per item was much cheaper than purchasing through Ali Express. Unfortunately, major health issues returned soon after and everything around Charcoal Beauty was dropped. I was never able to launch a dedicated advertising campaign or utilise the huge mailing list that the store has. Someone with advertising flair would be able to harness Charcoal Beauty’s large social media following as well as the mailing list. Another option with the private label would be to sell on Amazon. The sky is the limit for the right entrepreneur.

    Skills to have

    I made the mistake thinking I would easily pick up Facebook advertising skills and other avenues to promote Charcoal Beauty's products. Once again, I was wrong. Someone with average social media skills and a knowledge of Facebook advertising and mail outs would do well. Throw in a dash of e-commerce experience and you would be in line to hit a home run.
