Why this business was started

We started this business in 2014 with a friend who is a long time law enforcement officer, hoping to generate some income and to help great charities. The business took off and we were all too busy to dedicate much time to growing the business (we're all full time employed and I'm in the health field). We have been helping manage the business, but none of us have ever been able to dedicate time to market or grow it.

The reason of selling this business

Our career is in the health and fitness industry and software development. We have started a new company in the health and fitness space, and it requires our full time, so unfortunately, we have no time to dedicate to CharityMagnets.

What's involved in running this business

Virtually everything is automated. The sales and accounting systems are synchronized for Shopify and Amazon, there is no manual copy and pasting into Quickbooks or anything like that. We do minor bookkeeping (just to reconcile monthly expenses). There are some customer emails and an occasional phone call that we respond to. We order new inventory for some of the products each year which is very simple to do. Since we also sell on Amazon, we ship some of our inventory to them each year, but they do the fulfillment, so there is nothing else for us to do. We invested a lot of time and money into designing high quality products, sourcing the best manufacturers and automating everything, so there is little to do other than to approve any product design changes to the products or developing new products, which we've never had time to do.

The only variable is advertising and marketing, neither of which we have done in quite some time, not since 2016, when our annual sales were about $250,000, with the same small monthly overhead. Our sales are lower now because we have not dedicated any time to this business.

    Social marketing, newsletters and rev share/affiliate deals with online influencers. Any time we did any marketing, sales were generated immediately and our mailing list grew. There are some excellent channels that drive sales.
