Why this business was started

I decided to start Christmas Cabin because I wanted to get a feel for the entrepreneurial world. Having made several previous attempts, Christmas Cabin was the one that became sustainable.

I knew that there was most potential for sales in quarter 4 and at that time of year what better products to try and sell than Christmas products. I've enjoyed Christmas all my life and wanted to share that love with my audience and customers and try to make Christmas 2020 as enjoyable as possible despite the new world we live in.

The reason of selling this business

I have decided to sell mainly because at this stage of my life my studies take priority and trying to run a business as well will no doubt impact this. Currently I have a full time job (before returning to studying) so cannot dedicate the sheer amount of hours a business needs. I also do not have the capital or resources at my fingertips to take the company to a level that it deserves or is destined for.

What's involved in running this business

In order to run this business you will first and foremost need to fulfil orders, order from suppliers, research products, run advertising campaigns, put out social media content and keep the website fresh and up to date.

There are countless other avenues to explore which will inevitably end up creating more things to do. But this is how businesses grow.

    How to grow this business

    I think the store would need to attain contracts with professional suppliers where they can get good quality products and smoother logistics. Moving away from the dropshipping model potentially.

    I think they need to leverage social media platforms to grow as this can be a vital source of traffic and sales. I see TikTok and LinkedIn as potential winners here due to the organic reach these two platforms still provide. But that's not forgetting heavy usage on Facebook and Instagram as most of the target audience will be here. I think Twitter and Pinterest should be explored too.

    I think specialised Christmas stores like this are yet to establish themselves against bigger corporate chains which provides opportunity. I firmly believe people prefer to shop for Christmas at dedicated Christmas shops as it provides the experience and ambience that corporate chains do not. Hence the Christmas market obsession in Europe and America. Therefore the space is empty for a modern 2020 and beyond Christmas Ecommerce store.

    There are not really any specialised skills involved in running this store.

    All I would say however is always have the customer in mind and put customer service first as this is crucial during the festive season.
