Why this business was started

I started my Shopify store due to a great interest in learning the online business and building a brand. I love working from home and I love the flexibility to create my own schedule, as this business allowed me to do. I analyzed the product market and saw early that there is a price gap that was interesting. Whether there are brands that sell their product around 10 dollars or there are those that sell around 300 dollars, there are not many players in between. There and then I decided that there is a great chance to put a price around 90-110 dollars per unit and at the same time get a high quality of the product and be able to sell it. My mission was immediately to combine fashion and sustainability at a good price range to the customer, and at the same time, I get a good profit on every product sold as the margins are good.

At an early stage, I found very good contacts in factories that are among the best in the world to make sunglasses eco-friendly. One design includes more than 200 stages. Skilled artisans craft each and every detail by hand. Whether it is making temples, small metal parts, glazing of the lenses, or plating of metal colors, they all have their own expertise that together makes up the final high-end product. It results in that all our frames are made of renewable materials such as recycled plastic from oceans and metals with a low nickel value, which is just right in time for a brand.

During the past year, we have now sold our eco-friendly product to over 40 countries and with a simple plan, you will be able to expand it to even more as the product is popular and used all over the world.

The reason of selling this business

As another project has been launched to a very large crowd, unfortunately, the time and love that this web-shop/brand deserves is not enough. As the high season for the product is around the corner, we see very good timing for the one we hand over the business to get a good start. I am ready to start a new chapter in my business life and I believe the right buyer will know how to scale this business and improve profitability.

What's involved in running this business

Our weekly tasks involve checking email, meeting with our various teams on Zoom, and running our social media. Also creating New Products/Designs ( staff mostly takes care of this, but you'll need to give direction on what type of designs to create). We have close contact with our design team that helps us with the entire cycle from sketch to complete product in our own warehouse. Another daily task is to handle Customer Service and send out orders from the sale. These two parts are easy to hand over if you want to give more time to other things as the product has high margins.

We generate the bulk of our traffic using large well-known fashion marketplaces around the world and Facebook/Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok ads. Our traffic is highly targeted using look-a-like audiences and the total traffic this year has already reached over 300.000 visitors. We maintain customer relations through our loyalty program, social media, and email/SMS campaigns. We are constantly fine-tuning our funnel with retargeting ads and customized email flows. We conduct customer and product research in the form of testing social media advertisements. Winning ads are rinsed and repeated across multiple lookalike audiences. For example, we provide value with blog content related to our niche and promote the blog on Pinterest and then follow up with an email campaign to convert customers to purchase.

We have made a collaboration with the production company named Racing Cowboys which creates content for well-known events and brands such as the Super Bowl and Rolex. They will make a commercial for Maserati where sunglasses from CLÉO eyewear will be featured and seen on the models included in the commercial. The person to whom we hand over the business will be able to take part in this.

    Seller‘s Advice

    How to grow this business

    The marketing plan for our first year has been to take large market shares quickly by offering discounts which are possible due to the good margin structure that our product has, by this marketing plan we have already made a name for ourselves as a brand across large parts of Europe and rest of the world. It is now possible to quickly and easily increase profits by working with the marginal structure when the brand is already known.

    There are many business areas to create within the brand in the coming years to expand the business. Some parts that we have already started are Blue light glasses, reading glasses, and sports glasses such as skiing, golf, and running. These business areas can already be created for us by our existing factories.

    Improving conversion rate is a top priority. We recently relaunched our web-shop with new several languages and features that make the web-shop easier to use for customers, we are currently waiting on the results to see how much this has improved our conversion rates. I believe the right buyer will have more great ideas for increasing the conversion rate.

    I would work with a PR agency to get published in magazines and gain celebrity endorsement. These efforts would allow @cleoeyewear to be verified by Instagram/Facebook which leads to brand trust and potentially higher conversion rates.

    I would work to get CLÉO eyewear into even more retail stores. We are currently in several different boutiques and we receive a lot of wholesale interest from more boutiques every week that passes. The bulk of the stores we are in is located on the most exclusive street in Stockholm called Östermalm. It is the most popular and busiest street in Sweden and this is where all the biggest brand stores are located, which leads to a lot of brand trust. We believe wholesale is a great opportunity as a five-year plan.

    We have shipped everything ourselves which is the most cost-effective. I would consider continuing with a privately-owned warehouse to save on 3PL costs.

    Skills to have

    A general interest in fashion and design is a plus, but not required. If you don't want to run the social media and content creation as I have done. I can give you a great recommendation for a social media marketing team that is one of the best in Sweden. Ownership of CLÉO eyewear can be hands-off if you have the right will and passion in place. Largely, what it boils down to is making sure you are offering the right styles each season for the right traffic and existing customer base you already have. I will give you all the tools and winning strategies I've used to make you feel confident and thrive in your new business.
