Why this business was started

In summary we do not have enough spare time to run this store to its full potential. We primarily aimed to have a niche dropshipping store that could evolve into a brand that would have increased flexibility and not necessarily rely on the dropshipping model at some point in the future.

After some research and analysis of the products available the niche of drinks coasters was selected and a catchy name developed to match the fun, novelty products available on the website.

Care and attention has been put into the logo and the brand colours and as a result these remain consistent across all mediums. All our social media accounts display the same logo and colours as well as the automated Shopify emails, MailChimp email templates and the website itself.

The reason of selling this business

Since starting, we have been happy with the monthly profits but in the latter part of 2019 the monthly profit began to level out at a good rate. Things were looking promising for the coming months of 2020. Unfortunately both myself and the other owner of the store have obtained other commitments as well as a change of geographical location. These other commitments unfortunately take up more time than hoped and does not leave us with the sufficient time required to run the store and the Facebook ads effectively.

Due to these reasons very little activity has taken place since Christmas 2019.

What's involved in running this business

Currently most of the traffic comes from Facebook advertising. Once per week we organise what days and the budgets for all the Facebook ads. Most of our sales comes from a hand full of products, so these are the URLs we push via the adverts. Other profits come from upsells.

Once per day the orders are processed via Oberlo. This automates the ordering of the items from AliExpress. Any emails entered via the site are also automatically transferred to a MailChimp account for future communications. Once the item has been ordered, Oberlo handles the email notifications as the various stages are met. Emails sent from customers are replied to.

      All the final image assets as well as the master files will be sent via email. The final assets would mirror what is currently used online and the master files would be ideal for anyone wanting to build upon the brand and tweak the graphics to their liking.

      These images come ready saved in the Shopify product area. Any photos that were taken by ourselves will be handed over to the buyer in the highest resolution possible. For example our top selling product has been photographed in light boxes which helped improve the conversion rate of that particular product page. We also have a short video showcasing our flagship product that will come included. This could potentially perform well as advertising but limited time was available to optimise the advert.

    Seller‘s Advice

    How to grow this business

    Currently we have limited time to dedicate to this project and the only tactic we use to drive visits is via Facebook advertising. Should we attempt to grow the store over the next five years we would look into other methods of generating site visits such as influencer marketing, affiliate marketing and optimising the Facebook advertising that has already taken place.

    We've also had a number of organic visits that have led to sales. Our advice would be to create blogs and other content that will increase these numbers and lead to further organic sales. To further improve online presence of Coaster Rica it would also be important to maintain and improve the various social media accounts that come included in this exchange.

    Further split-testing and optimisation of up-selling (which is set up with various plugins) could also improve the average order value as well as focussing on consistent MailChimp email campaigns to generate further income from the existing customer base.

    Skills to have

    Marketing knowledge is important for Coaster Rica as the majority of site traffic comes from advertising. Prior knowledge of Facebook Ads, Facebook itself, Instagram, MailChimp and of course Shopify would cover the majority of the skills and tools required to run the site.

    Split testing also plays a large parts as Facebooks adverts, up-sells and the product pages themselves can be optimised further.

    Coaster Rica is a dropshipping store, so knowledge of managing orders via Oberlo and experiencing dealing with overseas suppliers would be ideal but not essential. These tools are designed to be simple so can be very quickly learnt.
