Why this business was started
My family has always been in the jewelry business, so it was the ¨logical¨ path to follow. But once in, I realized that this market is extremely benevolent in terms of profit and competition. There are alot of jewelry makers in the market, just like any other industry, but there is really a huge market for all of us. And just like most businesses, I am in it to make the most money, of course in a responsible and ethical way, but this niche is really attractive for that.

I currently have a job oportunity in another country, so I need more time flexibility.
What's involved in running this business
The usual day of the business goes as follow: -Check to see how many orders came in during the night hours -Fulfill those orders (Typically takes about 20/30 minutes for one person per order) We usually get about 3-5 so it takes about 2-3 hours. -Take pictures of new products (We aim to update at least 10 new products everyday) Pictures and editing take about 15-20 minutes per product, so that is another 2 hours. -Update products to online shop (About 3 minutes per product) Usually 30 minutes per day -Answer emails, make calls to prospects (Usually about 30 minutes a day) -Make a post on facebook, instagram and send out a promotional email with new products. (15-20 minutes) -Organize new merchandise in warehouse. Usually takes about 5 minutes per item. 1 Hour a day -Lastly, we do a quick inventory check to see if we would need to place orders for new or out of stock items. Usually about 20 minutes. -If we do need to make orders, those take about 1 hour.

How to grow this business
The potential of e-commerce and the great variety of jewelry markets make this a great business with a huge growth potential. We currently offer gold plated and sterling silver jewelry. But in the jewelry market, we have plans to do 10K gold, 14Kgold, 18k gold, platinum, diamonds, findings, watches and even jewelry business supplies. So the growth potential is huge! For us, the next thing to do would be to open up amazon and ebay stores with all the inventory priced at retail (about 4-5 times the wholesale price offered in Shopify). Then, focus strongly in trying to expand the market by introducing more sterling silver and 10/14k gold products. We would also move to open up our own shopify website for retail, and focus that one into the best selling models at a higher price, but always offering free shipping as that attracts customers. Also, cross and upselling. And the replicate the same with other jewelry niches.
Skills to have
The most important skill in my opinion is to be passionate about business. But the way we operate our business, we recommend having knowledge in web marketing and design. As these are the most used skills to attract customers through online shops.
