Why this business was started

As a keen fisherman, I thought it would be cool to start an online fishing store. In Australia, fishing gear is very expensive. I thought that if I could bring affordable fishing gear to the general public, I could make a living out of it. AliExpress dropshipping seemed like a great idea, and most of the products I tested were actually great quality. This led me to put a significant amount of time into learning how to build my own store on Shopify.

The reason of selling this business

Unfortunately, I don't think that Shopify is for me. Although I had great fun selling products online, I don't have the drive or the knowledge to be able to become successful. I think that the store has a lot of potential, and I've put a lot of time into creating decent product listings with products that I've personally tested. In the end, my biggest problem was marketing. I could list all the products I wanted, but if I couldn't market them, I simply wasn't getting any sales. I was able to make some decent sales through Facebook marketing, but they usually didn't do much more than cover the ad costs.

What's involved in running this business

The ideal person for this business would be someone who is experienced in online marketing. I simply didn't have the the experience or the knowledge I needed when I started, and this severely impacted my ability to advertise my store. Apart from running regular ad campaigns, all you need to do is fulfill orders through Oberlo & AliExpress (the process is somewhat automated). If you want to, you can list more products. Maintaining the Facebook page and creating blog posts for SEO purposes could also be a good idea. Also, the right person could significantly expand the potential market for this store by offering international shipping and by showing prices in multiple currencies - again, I simply don't have the knowledge or experience to do this.
