Why this business was started
We were a year out of college working in our corporate careers, when we reconnected on a call to catch up. We discussed launching a Kickstarter for a bottle opener we used to make for friends and family back in college. We used to use magnets to pick up bottle caps and after learning woodworking skills we were able to merge the bottle opener, magnets, and wood to create a beautiful product and fund a very successful Kickstarter campaign.
The reason of selling this business
We have been running DropCatch since 2013 and decided to enter the world of real estate in 2016 to invest in rental properties. At that point, we have been working on automating DropCatch for passive income. DropCatch is our baby and we want to continue to see it grow into the business it can become. With our focus shifted over to real estate, we no longer have time to push sales. It is perfect for someone to jump in where we left off as we enter our highest sales volume of the year. The holiday season!
What's involved in running this business
We have automated the business as much as possible. The only manual tasks include monitoring customer service and making sure inventory stays in stock. We spend no more than one hour each week on operations. The customer service emails consist of customers reaching out with questions regarding their order, wholesale inquiries, and any returns or special requests. Monitoring inventory consist of keeping track of stock levels to ensure nothing runs out. We have preferred suppliers for each of our products and you reach out to place the order. We can provide guidance on production timelines for each product. The automation is around order flow. For example, if a customer places an order from any of our sales platforms, the orders all aggregate into our shipping software. The shipment gets routed to Amazon, where they ship it to the final customer. This can be toggled off and shipped from your warehouse if you prefer. From there, we have automatic emails that go out to confirm the order, once the order is shipped, and once it is delivered. This significantly cuts down on customer service activities.

We are more than happy to help out with the transition to make sure the new owner feels comfortable with running the company. This will include an introduction to all suppliers, providers, wholesalers/distributors, etc. We want to make sure the next owner succeeds and we will be available for a one month transition period.

How to grow this business
To start, we would reengage the community through our social media accounts and email marketing lists, which have amassed large followings. We would also reactivate our successful Facebook, Google, and Mail Chimp ad campaigns. Expanding the existing product line would be a huge opportunity for growth among existing customers and wholesale clients. Lastly, we recommend setting up a distribution point internationally to lower shipping costs for overseas customers.

We would recommend the new owner to be a driven, self-starter! Running a business takes a go-getter mindset and you will need to step up to the plate and take action. Whether it is securing a PO with a wholesale account, helping a customer with a question, or making sure inventory is in stock.
