Why this business was started

This is the first online store I created with a friend who is a computer engineer, in web development more precisely. I have since created 4 other sales sites and I used all the learning to continuously improve this first site. We created this site to initially sell (collectible) knives, but due to the refusal of advertising from FaceBook, we have expanded our range to survival, camping and outdoor products globally. We used our skills and developed this one by creating a clean, fluid and easy to use site to make the consumer feel safe. Our advantage is customer service. Customer service is at the heart of any business and we have therefore developed some strategies and tools that too many sales people unfortunately leave out.

The reason of selling this business

I'm selling this site because we have developed an expertise in E-commerce (more specifically in website creation) with my partner and we want to start a business in consulting and creation of E-commerce websites to help small and local businesses to develop. We also questioned the problem of orders taking too long to come and, rather than working with an agent in China, why not develop local Ecommerce? We want to work on something more ethical and local.

What's involved in running this business

We have spent several hundred hours continuously improving our site, the way we use it (UX), the SEO (some of our products are in the top 4 of Google Image in front of ebay and other big names). We exceeded 1000€/month in summer 2019 also using growth hacking strategies. Our site is secure and inspires confidence, several customers have spent more than €200 on a single order. As said before, we have developed a customer service that is very responsive to messages and puts customer satisfaction at the centre. We only use free but efficient shopify applications. Our site is old so the SEO is even better. I have made the logo with a graphist designer.

    How to grow this business

    We have never really developed a community on Instagram, nor on Facebook and it would still be two efficient sources of free traffic in the outdoor field. We haven't created a blog either (the most interesting source of traffic to explore in my opinion) except for an article on a blog I created around ‘travel’ that has already brought traffic and sales. We haven't worked with influencers (only one small and I recommend several 'small' ones over one big). The SEO of our products is not 100% finalized, there are still a lot of improvements that can still lead to a reinforcement of natural SEO. In addition, you can also buy a domain that will also improve SEO.

    Skills to have

    You will work on the customer service, so you need communication skills and negotiation. You will need seller skills and marketing to sell products, make adverts. You will need globaly the skills to run an Ecommerce business : communication, marketing, design, financial. Opitonal : You will need to know a little about code to change the theme. I will help you with some skills with my training include in the offer.
