Business Story

Why this business was started

I have been an ecommerce director for numerous companies and got laid off in 2019 so I decided to sell something I love wearing.

The reason of selling this business

To be honest it's a tough decision that I have made with my family. We have a new kid on the way and I already work full time, as well as own and operate another ecommerce business. I need to free up time and allow this business to grow. The foundation and framework is already in place for the new buyer.

What's involved in running this business

Connecting with suppliers, reordering when need be or adding new styles. We spend pretty much zero dollars on marketing so all the revenue you see is organic through social and google, as well as all of our wholesale business. I have an employee that comes to the office to pull the socks, label them and pack them up. It freed up so much time to allow me to do other things.

This business was founded: about 2 years ago
Time to run this business: approximately 30 hours per week

Other details about profit: Revenue numbers shown by shopify do not represent our total sales. Please read. We have reinvested a lot of money into inventory to make sure we have enough on hand for our third year of operation. Fortunately, I have a decent-paying job so I didn't need to take much out of the business, hence the reason for investing all of the money back into inventory. Our goal for 2022 is to focus on the b2c customer and acquire more customers which we are doing. 2022 sales are up 18% over last year. Year to date April 26th we are at $26,636 in sales and on track to hit $125k in sales this year. Last year we did $64k on Faire (wholesale. Please note that a faire integration with Shopify didn't happen until May so that is why there is a disconnect between Shopify and faire, $9,500 on Abound (wholesale), $6,400 through our stores wholesale, and $16,800 on our online store. Total sales for 2021 were $94,000. We invested a lot of money back into inventory. The goal for the first two years in business was to re-invest back into inventory. We spend $850 a month on warehouse space. So if you have a house big enough you can save and right there is $850 a month back in your pocket.

    Seller‘s Advice

    How to grow this business

    Overview

WestSocks is a D2C and wholesale socks store selling on multiple platforms. This sale is for the stores that have been setup by me as well as all our unsold inventory, the value of which is currently around $28k at cost, $50k at wholesale, and over $100,000 at retail (subject to change as we are selling it actively).

We have a custom build-out for DTG printing and a vendor relationship in place. We have started to produce custom designs that can be dropshipped. This would limit the inventory on hand and you can focus on marketing upcoming trends. This is where we see a lot of growth. We have built great relationships with our wholesale clients and we have corporate clients that come back each year. We are a top shop on faire which means we get 10x exposure. Maintaining this, expanding the product portfolio and carrying inventory on hand will allow you to succeed.

I pay for office space at $850/month. If you did all this from your house you can easily pull an extra couple of grand out of the business.

    Customers

We acquire a lot of customers through our wholesale platforms as we are a top shop on Faire. A top shop on Faire gives us 10x more exposure than others stores. Our business has been around 75% wholesale and 25% b2b. The business has tripled in one year and will double next year.

    Financials / Inventory

2022 sales are up 18% over last year. Year to date April 26th we are at $26,636 in sales and on track to hit $125k in sales this year. Last year we did $64k on Faire (wholesale. Why Are you Selling?

To be honest it's a tough decision that I have made with my family. We have a baby on the way any day now and I already work full time. I need to free up time and allow this business to grow. The foundation and framework is already in place for the new buyer.

Who would this be perfect for?

This is a great deal for someone looking to take over an ecomm business with a lot of potential.

All the stores are setup, you will have a great brand and will have tons of inventory to sell.

    Skills to have

Just time management and operations. You will need to help pull orders, pack, as well as figure out content articles with the content writer. You will have a hand in everything. You don't need to have all the skills, just be good in certain areas.
