I started my business after falling ill and taking an extended absence from school. I loved expressing myself through accessories like phone cases, but the marketplace offerings never fully satisfied my needs. If the phone case was durable, it was never aesthetically pleasing (and vice versa).
The reason of selling this business
I have found it increasingly difficult for me to balance school with running a business. I am not able to give my all to both, and my focus shifted more towards school after I got accepted to the University of Texas at Austin. With reluctance and sadness, I think it is finally time for me to close this chapter in my life in order to fully dedicate myself to school.

I created my phone case business (FanMadeCases) in January of 2014 when I was sixteen years old. Each phone case was handmade with love in my home office, by a fan, for a fan! What started as hobby spawned from my love for pop culture grew to be so much more than I could have ever imagined. Almost immediately after launching my very own phone cases, they became an online sensation. Within the span of 12 months, I amassed a social media presence of over 50,000 followers and generated over $50k in sales. These phone cases changed my life! After the success of FanMadeCases, I decided to expand my business under the name "[PRIVATE INFO]" with plans to sell additional accessories and apparel. Overall, the business has generated over $130k in sales.

My store has a lot of potential and I know that it can be very profitable again. It needs someone with the time and energy to make the necessary updates to appeal to the current market and trends. I was reluctant to sell because I hoped to juggle both school and the store - but I've come to realize that it's just not realistic for me.
My store has a strong social media presence and averaged $2,800 in sales during the holiday seasons. If the new owner decides to stick with selling phone cases, it is a very profitable market. Young people love to use phone cases to express their unique style and are constantly looking for new cases to add to their collection. Apple and Samsung consistently release new phone models every year which increases phone case sales when customers upgrade their old phones.
How can the future owner improve the business?
Pop culture and technology are always evolving. When I became preoccupied with school, I was unable to keep up with current trends and generate new, relevant designs and products for my customers. The future owner would need to understand the target demographic and be able to quickly adapt to the changing trends while staying up to date with the new models of phones.
What work have you put into the store?
From 2014 to 2018, I single-handedly shipped upwards of 15,000 FanMadeCases all over the world and generated $150k+ in revenue between Shopify and other ecommerce platforms. I created most of my traffic through the use of social media and accumulated an Instagram following that topped 55k fans at its peak. The Instagram still exists - but has not been updated recently. The account currently has about 30k followers and the last post received 1,200 likes. I can include this Instagram account with the sale. Over the years, I built relationships with overseas suppliers who provide the best quality and prices for customized phone cases. I can share this information as well.

How to grow this business
If I were not in college and able to keep my business, I would focus on growing my social media presence and producing relevant product designs to appeal to my target demographic (pre-teens, teenagers, young adults). In addition to phone cases, I would add more accessories to the website to increase revenue (apparel, buttons, jewelry, etc.).
