Why this business was started
I founded this business in January of 2018 as a means to generate passive income while I focused on completing my degree at a 4 year university. Since I’m a full time college student, I chose the dropshipping business model as there is a high degree of automation that can be had. This has allowed me to continually earn money while still focusing the majority of my time on my studies.
This business is within the camping market, particularly with a focus on outdoors clothing and apparel which I decided to focus on as I had a strong personal interest and experience with the types of products sold in this business. As this isn’t my first dropshipping business within this market, I’ve gained a good amount of expertise with finding the right kinds of buyers in the camping niche and I’m more than happy to instruct the next buyer and teach them everything I’ve learned.
In general, the camping niche has been an excellent market for me. I’ve recognized the potential in this market with a great amount of active buyers on many social media platforms. This market is also highly active throughout the entire year. Since the majority of the products are heavily focused on outdoor recreation and camping, sales remain strong during summer while many other dropshipping niches experience a slight decrease in sales due to lower social media engagement.
As of right now, I’ve done very extensive advertising on Facebook and a small amount on Instagram also. Over the entire lifespan of the business, I’ve spent over $200,000 on Facebook advertisements which has generated almost 16.4 million impressions of data. After the initial months of collecting data, this Pixel became very mature within the camping and outdoor recreation market. Lookalike audience ad campaigns have performed well using this Pixel. The reason of selling this business
Early last year, I became much more occupied with my studies at school and haven’t been able to spend any time continuing to run the business. After such a long period of not being able to work on this business, I realized that it would be more beneficial to find a buyer who has the time to take advantage of the potential this store has since I’m no longer able to.
I’m hoping to find a new home for this store with a buyer who has the same enthusiasm for business as I’ve had while building this brand and will take it to the next level
What's involved in running this business
Since this is a dropshipping store, the standard operations apply with order fulfillment where orders from the store need to be forwarded to manufacturers. The whole order fulfillment process can easily be streamlined by using free Shopify apps such as Oberlo or Dropified. I personally used Oberlo, but either app will work great. Using these apps, the manufacturer finishes making the products and ships it over to the customer, tracking is automatically sent to your customers and Shopify will notify the customer that their product is on its way. After it arrives, the app will categorize the order as fulfilled.
To fully automate this entire process I hired a VA to manage order fulfillment as this process can be decently time consuming once orders start to flow in at a steady stream. If you’re interested in working with the same VA, I still have her contact information and I’m sure she’d be more than happy to continue working for this business.
The main goal I had when I started this business was to automate as much of the daily operations as possible. In addition to having my VA manage order fulfillment, she was also tasked with responding to customer emails and inquiries. The majority of my responsibilities were mainly managing advertising streams and searching for new products. The vast majority of my time was spent optimizing the Facebook ads I was running to drive traffic to the website. This is a very important part of the business as it drives almost all the revenue this business generates.
There is an opportunity to generate repeat business through email marketing through the massive email list I’ve compiled. There are currently over 60,000 customer emails to use for email marketing campaigns, which I’ve never taken advantage of.

How to grow this business
This website has always had a decently high conversion rate ever since I started running it. During certain months, the conversion rate on certain products would be over 50% and the store’s overall conversion rate over its entire lifespan is roughly 9%. For this reason, there isn’t likely a large amount of work needed in updating the website so the main way to grow this business is through new and unique forms of advertising to drive new customers to the website.
As mentioned above, Facebook worked really well for a number of my winning products. That’s why I focused almost exclusively on the Facebook advertising platform so I never tapped into Google, Snapchat, or YouTube ads which are all great options to grow this business. Each of these platforms are much less competitive than Facebook and will be easier to get set up and running effectively. I also never ran any video ads on any platform. The entirety of my advertisements on Facebook were only picture and slideshow ads. Video ads are well known for having much higher engagement on social media platforms compared with picture ads. If the next buyer spends some time creating some great video ads of the products in use, this should result in a significant increase in sales.
During the course of running this business, I also generated a very large mailing list of customers that have agreed to accept marketing email campaigns from this business. Since I focused on Facebook ads, I never got a chance to make use of the email list because email marketing isn’t within my skill set. There are over 60,000 customer emails and I hope the next owner is able to make great use of them.
There’s also a great opportunity to increase this store’s average order value. While I was running the business, I had a few small post purchase upsell sequences in place, but I hadn’t ever implemented a very successful upsell campaign. I’ve used Sweet Upsell and Zipify, both of which have worked well, but could be expanded upon by a future buyer.
Skills to have
-Basic conceptual knowledge of dropshipping/e-commerce. This can be achieved by watching a couple of YouTube videos if you’re just getting started with dropshipping.
-Oberlo/Dropified: This app will greatly help free up your time running the business as it adds a large degree of automation in the order fulfillment process. I’ve left the choice of which app to use up to the new buyer as either app will work, personally I used Oberlo and it worked out great for me, but I’ve heard a number of dropshippers say Dropified is a slightly better platform.
-Marketing skills and an understanding of how to convert page viewers into customers. The website itself converts very well compared to industry standards so the main focus should be driving quality traffic onto the website from other platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Google, Snapchat, and YouTube.
