Why this business was started

In 2006, there was a shortage of high quality aftermarket, machined Toyota parts. We started with a simple battery clamp design for personal use, and discovered a huge market. The shift knobs have since become our best seller, and are admired worldwide by Toyota enthusiasts. With the current offering, we are able to connect with customers driving Toyota vehicles made in the 70's or older, all the way up to this current model year. With some design and marketing tweaks, the product line can easily be expanded to include more current year models as well.

With a young growing family, the time required to focus on the business in order to see it grow and reach it's potential is waning. It is sustainable and profitable as is (with much help from the Shopify store), but has a great deal of potential that may not be able to be exploited under the current ownership.

General description

Shopify store front, intellectual property (engineering drawings), social media presence, and in-stock inventory with many unique products. No software or machinery is included, but personal support and manufacturing expertise will be provided as part of the sale. A CO2 (or similar) laser table would be an excellent asset in order to continue to provide fast, efficient, and low-cost custom etching, and this piece of machinery and accessories can be negotiated.

    How to grow this business

    There is a great potential to lower manufacturing costs while maintaining quality by producing these products in the United States, where both manufacturing costs and taxes are lower. In addition, this would decrease the cost of shipping substantially and improve shipping speed a great deal. The majority of Ellis Precision customers reside in the USA, though we have managed to create a global audience with customers on every continent.

    Skills to have

    Some manufacturing experience would be a great asset, while access to or the means to buy CNC equipment for in-house production could further decrease cost per part. Customer service has been what sets us apart lately, with some parts approaching our level of quality, so the ability to have someone that can stay engaged with customers through social media and email would be extremely beneficial.
