Why this business was started

I bought some trailer plans from a competing store with the plans to build my own about 10 years ago and as and Engineer and tradesman was pretty dissapointed in the quality of the design and drawings. I thought I could do better and I had the skills to exploit a very small niche. I figured I could generate some passive income while traveling through Asia so I spent some time living in Thailand while I built the designs and the website with the plan for the profits to fund our travels.

The reason of selling this business

I have never really had the time to commit to looking after and building the business to it's potential. I am busy with my full time work and don't see myself having the time to get 100% out of it.

What's involved in running this business

I spend 20-30 mins a day responding to emails, Mostly non technical emails that are typically answered if the customer had read the item description. If I had the time I would be spending bit of time each day on facebook ads or google ads and refining the website.

Order fulfillment is automated apart from the occasional order that I create manually for a customer after receiving an email request for an invoice or discount. Since the product is digital, it is delivered via email automatically after checkout using the free "Digital Downloads" app.

Approximately once every 2-3 months I will need to respond to a technical query regarding one of the plans. These questions will often be pretty basic engineering/fabrication questions like "Where can I buy X part" or "Can I increase the capacity 100x" These are the sorts of questions I am happy to negotiate assistance with in one way or another.

That is pretty much all that's involved in running the business.

Other details about profit: My high profit margin is based on the initial design costs of the product being practically zero while I built the product myself. If you were to commission new trailer designs this value would have to be adjusted obviously and this would vary greatly depending on the type of trailer. I used to make about $1000 / month profit selling hard copies on eBay but no longer had the time to fulfill the orders. ( eBay account = Bobbieknockout )
