Why this business was started

florida powderskate was started in 2003 as a solution to riding mountains traditionally reserved for skis and snowboards with binding mechanisms. Our powderskates were designed to float in deep powder and carve smooth turns on groomed slopes along with all conditions in between with out the use of bindings. The sensation of riding mountains without bindings is exhilarating and our boards to this day have not been duplicated or improved upon by any other company in the snowboard industry. I have built all boards by hand in my small manufacturing shop and would recommend a manufacturing partner for anyone interested in continuing to build the florida powderskate brand.

Two years ago I opened an online store to sell more snow skate products that the niche sport needs. I have close relationships with all of my suppliers as we have been growing snowskating together for over 20 years.

My next chapter in life does not involve my own business. i am focusing on my engineering and management career and hope a new start up snow skate company may find value in all of the work we have done thus far in creating the best binding free snowboards on earth.

What's involved in running this business

Most of my traffic is from google search for rocker trucks and or ungi bungi leashes. Our website is the only option online with consistent inventory and customer service in the snow skate space. I order inventory in late summer or fall so that by November 1st we are stocked up. November through January are our busiest three months with regular sales of gear.

There are events around the world(Japan, Norway, Colorado, Washington, Oregon) we sponsor to keep our name and products front and center in the snowskate community. It also helps that we have been around for almost 20 years in various forms. Many customers are returning and or have heard about through word of mouth in snow skate community

We are always looking into new products and testing them for quality and performance. Within in the last couple years many new companies have been making great product and if I was to keep shop open there are many options for sales/profitability.
