Business Story

Why this business was started

As i was just a student, i was looking for a way to make an extra income with working only whenever i can so i can keep up with my studies. Thus i turned to starting an online store. After making a research, i wanted something more unique and that there isnt so much competition but also that there was a space to have something innovating if i was to turn the e-shop into a retail business with my production. Since i was a dog lover, and passionate about dogs, i wanted to mix this. Starting selling dog products at the beggining, after monitoring my analytics was only suggested to go for dog clothes and that was i did and then i saw real improvement.

The reason of selling this business

As i mentioned above it was an online business that i was working while i was studying. Unfortunately i did not have the necessary time sice i had a part time job, full-time mathematics degree, and an online course, my time was limited. I loved this business by spending all my free time on it and manage it make it sucessfully. I would love to sell this business for the reason that i would like to see this idea being implemented by someone and as i can not do it right now i would like to sell it.

The only real struggle i had it was the time and the money. I had never invested more than $200 a month, and there were months that i could make up to $450-500. I knew if i had more money i could make it way better.

What's involved in running this business

The normal procedure was fullfillin orders, ordering from suppliers, researching some products and the competition and whats new in the market, and also running digital campaigns, and social media posts.

I could manage to do all that in 1-2 days per week, so i was spending usually 2 hours of planning on Saturday, and i needed 5-6 hours on Sunday to execute everything and also schedule my social media posts.

    Seller‘s Advice

    How to grow this business

The FunnyPaws has started as a dog and cat store but all products only. While i was running it i notice an unexpected demand on clothings. Due to that and the market research i did, i have decided to turn this into a dog clothing store main theme with some accessories to cross selling. I have not taken this idea too far since i was too busy, so my advice would be to keep it as a dog clothing main (seasonal) and cross selling accessories of the season related.

Also a dog lovers gift would be added as well. (Great potential).

I have also contacted Cafe & Hotels, and other business that are dog friendly and they would love to collaborate with this shop and getting a percentage per order coming from them.

Also with a Dog shelter/rescue, all were willing to give them our business card with a unique discount code and get a percentage offer as a return.

    Skills to have

I would say some experience with Google adwords/analytics and as well as social media campaigns if not using automations. Rathen than the digital marketing skills nothing else.
