Why this business was started

I have always had an interest in building houses and shelters, and wanted to sell high ticket items. I created a brand called Grizzly Shelter to focus on carports, garages, greenhouses, gazebos, sheds and other garden accessories. I am an authorized dealer with ShelterLogic (largest shelter company in the world) and Palram (leading polycarbonate greenhouse, gazebo, carport supplier), two of the largest and most reputable shelter suppliers. The home and garden category is very lucrative, given that home-owners want to invest in their property and protect their assets. Being home-owners, they haven a high average income. Protecting their vehicles, RVs and boats with a carport or garage is a priority. There are also many related products that can be sold, such as hot-tubs, trampolines, gardening supplies, power tools and more.

The reason of selling this business

I have other businesses that I am focusing on in the software area. I am working on Shopify apps, since that is my background as a programmer. I also want to sell this business since it is doing well and growing, and so the buyer will get some good value. High ticket items are less work than low ticket items, so I think this should be of appeal.

What's involved in running this business

Marketing is mostly on Google Shopping and Adwords. I do some Facebook and Instagram advertising also. Fulfilling orders is very quick and easy, especially with fewer high ticket items vs low cost/high volume consumer items.

    How to grow this business

    I would focus on expanding the product line to other high ticket items such as trampolines, hot tubs, lawn and garden tools. I would focus more on testing Facebook, which I only did a small amount of. Also, I really did not leverage Instragram to grow followers. ShelterLogic has a large commercial line of shelters and greenhouses with very high profit margins and potential. And a huge opportunity would be to focus on the US market using GrizzlyShelter.com which is all setup, with a dozen or so sales.

    Skills to have

    Really customer service is important, and providing good promotions via e-mail and social networks. I think Pinterest is an opportunity as well as Instagram, neither of which I am an expert in.
