Business Story

Why this business was started

I bought it from the original owner. I liked the idea/theme/messaging behind it. Women's issues are a hot topic right now and the women's march was a big (current) starting point for this business. Pussy hats were the number one seller and can still be a big money maker with the right advertising.

I have included screenshots from the original shopify store to show the sales, etc from the beginning of it's inception.

The reason of selling this business

The original owner made 6 figures in sales and I have not been able to replicate that. My marketing skills are weak and I just haven't been able to capture what he was able to capture. One of the pussy hats still ranks number 1 in google search.

Screenshots included of original shopify store/account. I have decided to try the fitness niche using the "old" shopify store account. This us-roar was created new by me to give the store a fresh slate.

What's involved in running this business

Very few manual orders (mostly with the hats). All t shirts/hoodies are automatically fulfilled. Social media is very helpful; some of the content I've created or shared has gotten good reactions. Advertising on FB takes up a large chunk of a day.

Several 'meme' posts have had tremendous reach (see screenshot of most recent) hitting over a 4 million reach, 5,000 + reactions, etc. Posts like this drive likes and follows to the FB page which will be helpful for marketing efforts.

    Seller‘s Advice

    How to grow this business

Marketing, marketing, marketing. The audience is there. Large email list, decent FB following, just gotta do better ads/marketing. I believe there's a lot of life left in this store. There are several thousand physical products that are part of this sale - light pink pussy hats and 2 colors of beach pussy hats. Also, a large box of headbands. All else is POD via Printify. Additional items to sell would greatly improve sales.

Also have a wholesale account at Faire (fka Indigo Faire) which brings in ~$300/mo and could probably beef that number up with some extra effort. Currently getting about 1 order per month. Fulfill via Printify.

    Skills to have

No - but good marketing skills could get the store back to it's original glory.

The history of this ecommerce store: It was created 2-3 years ago by the original owner; he made more than $400,000 in sales total. The number one seller was pink pussy hats and then a variety of POD t shirts & hoodies. He sold the business to me last year because he had several other ventures and could not tend to this store as much anymore. I have not had the same success, HUGELY due to the fact that I don't know how to market. Sales trickle in but there is still plenty of life left in this store, especially with the 2020 election coming
