Business Story

Why this business was started

I started the store as a side-line business, as I am self employed and when away from my work don't get paid. So having an online store meant I could earn no matter where I was. I wanted the store to be almost hands free, and have only dedicated 2-3 hours Mon-Fri working on the store.

The reason of selling this business

After a year of being hacked (completely resolved now) and health issues, and finally my mother passing away. I decided to look after my health, travel and slow down. Hence I decided to sell. I stopped marketing the store in March, and all revenue since is purely organic.

What's involved in running this business

At present not much, an email once a week to my list. To rebuild the store - then running FB ads, most orders are POD which requires nothing, the small amount of drop shipped items means going to Aliexpress and ordering item. The stores page is part of a csv file that is emailed daily so it takes about 5 minutes to place orders. Apart from that, to grow the store once more is mainly focussing on advertising, designs (which can be done yourself or outsourced - I have 2 designers keen to work).

This business was founded: almost 4 years ago
Time to run this business: approximately 10 hours per week

General description

Business Description

We sell Print On Demand items such as Leggings, Shoes, Boots, Bags, Blankets, Wallets, Car Seat Covers, and Pillows and Drop Ship Leggings, Sunglasses and Necklaces.

The majority of our items are unique to our store, especially the POD items. Our main niche is Steampunk and we are one of the largest stores with unique and exclusive designs. With literally hundreds of items ready for sale, and about 70% never been marketed yet, so ready for expansion of sales.

We have also Cat, Horse and Sugar Skull items and these niches have only been targeted briefly as Steampunk has been pour focus initially.

Purchase comes with:

Mature Pixel 145k Fan page, 9k Fan page, 5k fan page plus a 2k Fan page 23k Email list

How does the business make money?

Our main income has been via advertising on Facebook with our Steampunk, Cat, Horse and Sugar Skull items. We have only ever focussed on one product at a time as the business was run by me personally and I only dedicated 2 hours a day to run the store 5 days a week.

We email weekly to our customers and have set up cart abandonment emails also, to help optimise sales. Our weekly emails help generate income and since stopping Facebook Marketing they have been our source of profit along with the organic traffic we receive.

Why should someone buy this store?

The store has been in operation since 2015 and has a following in our Steampunk Niche of 145,000 fans, our Cat, Horses, and Sugar Skull niches combine another 10,000 fans. We have an active email list of over 21,000.

Being a store with hundreds of products that are evergreen, means there are many products that will sell all year round and have done so for years.

I am selling the store as I want to retire and travel, it will take little time and effort to reignite the marketing, and add in further marketing in Google, Instagram to build the store even further.

The new owner can walk in to the business now, knowing that without any marketing they can profit with the organic traffic and simply duplicating the many email templates we have done over the past years.

How can the future owner improve the business?

Start Facebook advertising again, the purchase comes with Mature Pixel, 145k Fan page, 9k Fan page, 5k fan page plus a 2k Fan page, along with a 23k Email list and 72k contact email list.

Reigniting the advertising will grow the business again, adding in Google Adverts and Instagram (which were never targeted before) should grow the business beyond our years of doing over 300k revenue.

What work have you put into the store?

I designed the store, most designs were developed by myself, built the following in the store and the fan pages, where our main niche is one of the largest of fan pages.

Other details about profit: The 2018-2019 financial year figures are poor, due to the issues we had in that year. This is why the store has huge potential to rebuild it back to the previous years growth, especially with expanding the marketing into Instagram etc. The $4594 is the average monthly profit since the store started Currently the profit is $500-700 monthly as there is no marketing being performed. I have a csv file of the financials outlaying the month by month and years data since we began. For the past 12 months figures are as follows: Revenue/Costs/Profit Jul 18 $34,248 $32,795 $1,453 Aug 18 $18,762 $18,786 -$24 Sep 18 $9,688 $11,026 -$1,338 Oct 18 $7,421 $9,646 -$2,225 Nov 18 $8,815 $8,774 $41 Dec 18 $28,700 $25,623 $3,077 Jan 19 $40,854 $36,601 $4,253 Feb 19 $25,206 $24,214 $992 Mar 19 $11,575 $11,881 -$306 Apr 19 $1,693 $1,200 $493 May 19 $2,036 $1,300 $736 Jun 19 $1,477 $921 $556 Jul 19 $1761 $984 $776 The loss months are due to my health issues and stepping away from the store, March 2019 was my mothers passing and then the stopping of marketing from there.

    Seller‘s Advice

    How to grow this business

Start Facebook advertising again, reigniting the advertising will grow the business again, adding in Google Adverts and Instagram (which were never targeted before) should grow the business beyond our years of doing over 300k revenue.

    Skills to have

As the store is mainly POD with some drop shipped items, there is no need for any specific skills apart from running the store. There are over 1000 products, most are uniquely designed. Designs can be arranged via outsourcing to stay unique.

I started the store to help boost income as my occupation means if I am away from my hob I don't get paid. The store grew quickly over a 2 year period, and then we had a couple of events which have affected sales. Firstly our ad account plus fan page were hacked and stolen, which took 3 months to get back. This was over the Christmas buying period, and the result was we needed to restart everything and build once more. As we were building again, I had health issues that took me away from the store. The last issue is the catalyst for the sale.

Exchange is the largest and fastest-growing marketplace for Shopify e-commerce stores

    Secure messaging platform

You will be able to communicate with sellers via a secure messaging platform. After you log in and request information from a listing, sellers are notified and have the ability to respond. When you are ready, you can make an offer.

    Encrypted payment capture

Exchange and Escrow.com have partnered together to provide you with safe transactions that have bank encryption, making sure that payment is securely captured. Escrow.com ensures that its users pass verification checks before transactions can proceed.

Take time to inspect the business

Once you submit payment to Escrow.com and the payment has been secured, the funds are held until you confirm that all assets received are as negotiated. You can use the inspection period to ask the seller any extra questions about the business.

    Safe store transfer

When the transaction is finalized, the dedicated migration team at Exchange will begin the process of making you the new owner of the store. Buyers and sellers will be notified via an email from the Exchange team once store transfers have been completed.
