Business Story

Why this business was started

I started this store as an effective way to learn about e-commerce and build brand in a growing niche.

It was by pure accident that I found out how lucrative this niche was. Most of the time I have spend on this store have been spent in building a loyal following/fan base and not really in marketing products.

In the time I have owned the store, I have grown accounts to:-

17k Instagram followers 52k Facebook followers 11k email subscribers

The reason of selling this business

I have decided to sell because of time restraints. As much as I am reluctant to part with something I have spent time building organically, I do want to pass it on to someone who can market this store the way it deserves.

What's involved in running this business

  • Sending out regular email newsletters
  • Marketing on Facebook, Instagram, Google ads
  • Order fulfillment

The store is a great brand, and there is excellent potential to branch out into the also lucrative K-beauty niche and K-subscription snacking niche.

This business was founded: about 2 years ago
Time to run this business: approximately 15 hours per week

Description

General description

This is a dropshipping store in the "explosively-growing" K-pop niche. It offers apparel and accessories to K-pop fans who tend to actively search for their favourite band clothing, or respond to display ads featuring items from their brand.

We have dropshipped from China for a while, and have recently started to engage USA-based suppliers to improve our customers experience, as this is our largest market. Improved customer experience should also set the stage for high ROI from e-mail marketing. We have built up an e-mail list of around 11,000 e-mail subscribers, a Facebook fanpage of 52,000 subscribers and an Instagram page of 17,000 subscribers. All channels are underutilised, and we have gotten sales in the past by just posting on our social media pages.

K-pop is getting extremely popular among certain 18 - 30 year olds all over the world, especially in Western countries.

While dropshipping is a great model for this store, this demographic is one of few that are fine with dropshipped goods, as this is perceived as "authentic". The store also has POD fulfillment in place and a range of in-house designs for a range of products.

Why should someone buy this store?

Most of the hardwork has been done in building a brand with this store. We own a few of our own flagship products that cannot be gotten anywhere. We have good relationships with suppliers and can source most of our products for around 5 - 10% cheaper than AliExpress prices.

We have also created custom goods which are not available any where else.

This store has potential to make $1k - $3k per day as I have not fully explored the social media channels and Facebook traffic for sales. I have achieved most of these sales with around 1-3 Facebook campaigns running at any given time. 10 good campaigns could easily net you $3k daily.

How can the future owner improve the business?

  1. E-mail marketing
  2. Facebook campaigns - testing more products
  3. Social media channels
  4. More in-house products/POS
  5. Exploring Pinterest as a social media tool
  6. Reddit ads

What work have you put into the store?

I have built the store to a steady customer base of around 77,000 customers on all channels.

I have taken great care to maintain good relationships with customers, and have sent out gifts over the Christmas season to a significant number of customers.

I have optimised the store on Google Shopping and it appears on the front page for quite a number of products

Customers tend to be very responsive to e-mail campaigns and not much investment is required to get cash coming in from day 1.

I haven't run any ads to the store in the last year, due to lack of time to monitor ads, but I have almost always achieved sales whenever I have put out an ad.

    Why use Exchange?

Exchange is the largest and fastest-growing marketplace for Shopify e-commerce stores

    Verified listing data

The revenue and traffic data that you see on each listing is pulled directly from its Shopify account. This means that the data has been verified. Exchange reviews and monitors listings for thorough and accurate information.

    Secure messaging platform

You will be able to communicate with sellers via a secure messaging platform. After you log in and request information from a listing, sellers are notified and have the ability to respond. When you are ready, you can make an offer.

    Encrypted payment capture

Exchange and Escrow.com have partnered together to provide you with safe transactions that have bank encryption, making sure that payment is securely captured. Escrow.com ensures that its users pass verification checks before transactions can proceed.

Take time to inspect the business

Once you submit payment to Escrow.com and the payment has been secured, the funds are held until you confirm that all assets received are as negotiated. You can use the inspection period to ask the seller any extra questions about the business.

    Safe store transfer

When the transaction is finalized, the dedicated migration team at Exchange will begin the process of making you the new owner of the store. Buyers and sellers will be notified via an email from the Exchange team once store transfers have been completed.
