Why this business was started

I started this business because I felt, there was a major gap in the market for an affordable hiking and camping brand, all of the established brands charge any where from $100-$200 for a backpack. I felt that this priced certain people out of the market. I wanted to create something for that made me feel good, that I was providing a service to people who didn’t have hundreds of dollars to spend on equipment. The average student, the single mum who has to support children, the family just scraping by but love to came. I wanted a website that showed passion for the market, constantly updating with innovative products at a very affordable price. Essentially a store that sold the products you wanted for a price you wanted. Hikers and campers are extremely passionate people who love what they do. However that doesn’t mean they should be taken advantage of. The same way your average person is excited by the new iPhone, they are excited by new equipment and awesome products, and this is what this website provides for them. Like with any business, the success comes from the owner. I identified the weaknesses in the market and sort to put right some of those wrongs. I had the passion that was needed to find extremely innovative and fun products that would bring enjoyment to hikers and campers.

The reason of selling this business

I am selling this business because I no longer have the time to support it the way I would like to, with a dedicated person running this website it will bring extremely good revenue and high profits. I also run two other separate Shopify stores so I have not been able to dedicate my time and resources to this website like I should. There is however massive potential here for someone who will be dedicated to seeing the business grow. Once you amerce yourself in the market, you will easily be able to grow this business. All of the businesses sales came from $0 spent, the traffic has been coming solely from the massively loyal Instagram following which is 5,500 strong. This provides an excellent ready made market for someone to tap into. Added with someone who is savvy with Instagram and Facebook marketing, you will see the sales start to fly in no time.

What's involved in running this business

The running of the business is fairly straightforward, there is already a considerable amount of products on the store, all categorized neatly and precisely. All with full product descriptions that describe and explain the products perfectly. The orders are funneled through Oberlo which makes them very easy to fulfil. They can literally be fulfilled within a minute. The product niche is also extremely exciting, additional products can be added easily from AliExpress. On AliExpress it also shows you the latest and hottest products in the camping niche, allowing you to add the products you want. Marketing campaigns can be run as you see fit, whether it be through Facebook, Instagram or Google. How to grow this business

Over the next few years the focus would be on building a strong and loyal following, this would come from me really diving even deeper into the market, truly understanding why people want and buy certain products. I would also target very good hiking/travelling influencers to be potential brand ambassadors. This is something that has worked well for other hiking companies. These influencers come with a loyal following of their own. So I would seek to make a potential collection featuring them. Similar to how Nike has a Roger Federer collection. Then building off of this I would try to also make original media content. This would be in the form of Instagram TV videos and Youtube videos. Cool and fun camping/hiking videos always do extremely well on Youtube and this opens up another revenue source, I would put adverts on these Youtube videos, increasing the range in which Hiking Store receives money. There is so much potential out there for this business to grow and be extremely successful.

Skills to have

The new owner just needs to understand that this is an extremely fun and exciting market. Whether it be hiking beautiful mountains in the Swiss Alps or camping in some of the stunning National Parks across America this is something that people truly love. If you are someone who is creative with that entrepreneurial spirit you will have very good success with this business.
