Business Story

Why this business was started

I set up this small store, because I've thought of this great and passionate niche and I wanted to see if it's profitable. The last time I've set up my own store was more than a year ago so it's nice to see I still got it. I've been working on projects for different clients lately, and I missed working on my own projects. I came across this niche working for a client and I saw that it's a really passionate niche and that homeschooling is a kind of "religion" for them and that they are prepared to fight for it. So this niche meets the conditions of a potentially profitable and successful one. I also did some digging in FB Audience Insights and read a bunch of articles related to this niche and I see it really does have great potential. I wanted to start with a Print-on-demand model so I did some t-shirt designs and published them to the store.

The reason of selling this business

I've started working on a new project and I just don't have time to start running FB ads for this store. I actually set up one campaign and started running some traffic to the collections page of the store and been getting good CTR and cheap clicks. So my hypothesis about this niche was confirmed.

What's involved in running this business

Not much really: fulfilling orders, running FB ads and finding new products or at least continuing with this Print-on-demand model and creating new designs.

This business was founded: about 1 year ago
Time to run this business: approximately 5 hours per week

Seller‘s Advice

How to grow this business

Find what kind of problems are homeschool parents encountering and then launch a product solving that problem. Preferably I'd try to focus on digital products, since you have no future expenses with them once they are created. The only thing you have to worry about are marketing costs. I'd also try to leverage influencer marketing - might be interesting in this niche.

Skills to have

In the beginning I'd suggest learning how to navigate in your Shopify store and later learn at least FB ads if not Google and Pinterest as well.

I come from a financial background, but about 2 years ago I realized I need to do something else in my life. I started doing digital marketing almost by accident. First, my best friend and I started a Shopify store in the vegan niche where we used influencer marketing and free+shipping model. We later sold that store. After that project I started working for different clients, running mostly FB and Google ads for e-commerce businesses. In in the past 2 years, I've probably worked on more than 50 different projects with budgets from $5k - 50k.
