Business Story

Why this business was started

We love energy drinks! & I bet you do too! We wanted to create a low calorie (healthy) product. We wanted to make an impact on the market by cutting the big players out with an alternative product that was marketed as "healthy, hydrating & energizing". The energy drink market is fun & has a lot of loyal customers.

    Seller‘s Advice

    How to grow this business

    Q&A Below..

We have around 5k in inventory - see attached screenshot of Shopify inventory. As you can see we are currently selling a 12-pack/shirts for $23.99. In total we have 224 units. Only a few stickers left.

What is the company that makes the energy drink? And is it also bottled there?

You would be dealing with one person from one company who essentially guides you through the entire process & takes the drink from start to finish. The drinks are, for all extensive purposes, manufactured/filled/labeled by the same company. I cannot say whom at the moment without an NDA & an intent to purchase the company. I'm sure you can understand & that, if you do decide to move forward, would not want everyone inquiring about the company to know who your supplier is. I can say it's a pharmaceutical facility that complies with all FDA regulations & GMP.

What's the cost of goods sold for one energy drink?

The COGS will range from approx. 40-90 cents depending on how many are purchased at a time (this will require an investment to bring more product in). This includes everything in a final filled product.

Also, are you shipping your energy drinks, shirts, and stickers out by hand, or do you use a distribution center?

I had a warehouse with 2 workers that were shipping & packing by hand. We also utilized FBA (amazon). Which works out really well. We were on Amazon Prime so they fulfilled for us. No warehouse needed for this as you can drop-ship from factory to amazon. I directed sales from our website to Amazon at that point - which made things easy for the drinks & I would ship shirts from our office.

In July 2018 and in May 2019, you had some of your best revenue performances. What do you believe caused those spikes?

Yes we did. We ran promotions & competitions on social media to drive those revenue numbers up. We also had some large purchases from retailers online. A lot of our sales came through distribution locally in STL. It is not as difficult as you think - whenever you have a good product to approach a distributor & have them test your product in their market. We did this & started selling them pallets at roughly $17 a (12-pack). There are 210 cases on a pallet. We were paying (at that point) roughly $9 for a 12-pack. So the Margin was pretty good to sell in volume with.

How have you marketed Hyped Energy so far? I see you are on social media but did you also use google/facebook ads? Influencer marketing?

We did quite a bit of influencer/affiliate marketing - this worked out pretty well but was overall time consuming. We also ran ads (i'm no expert at it) but still had quite a bit of success doing it. Social media has helped. Everything you see is organic. Nothing has been forced or purchased.

I saw that you said you have the P&L statements for the last 2 years. Is that something you can send over for me to look at?

I will send P&L statements if you have intent to move forward & are interested. That's not a problem at all to do.

    Skills to have

Yes. Website Skills as well as Marketing Skills for online sales. Well versed with social media. Willing to learn or knowledge of sourcing product/beverage industry. Interpersonal/sales skills for distribution/wholesale/retail sales. Much more will be shared as needed/desired.
