General description

Do you love fabric, DIY, and designing? Do you know how to market/advertise? This is the right business for you. This is a turnkey business all set to go for the enthusiastic crafter-business person. Itty Bitty Handmade creates kits to help DIYers make heirloom-quality, modern-looking baby quilts. Absolutely everything you need except an iron, sewing machine and scissors is in the kit. As the owner, you design the quilts, source the materials, and assemble the kits. The absolute best thing about this business is that it comes with complete, professional instructions on the proprietary way of making the quilts. No experience necessary.

My sales are weak due to my lack of time to put in to this business (I have other jobs) and lack of marketing. What you are purchasing is a complete turn-key product - complete with inventory, website, social following, proven methods and stellar reviews. The price is based off of the inventory you will receive as well as the R&D involved in bringing this to a streamlined, unique, proven, and high-quality product. You don't need to invent anything. You just need to market it!

I will provide you with 3 months of support on assembling and designing kits, managing the website and domain, answering any questions I can, and sourcing materials.

Financials and traffic

I have been running this as a hobby with no advertising. EVERY time I've sent out a newsletter (which I've done only a handful of times) I get at least one sale. There is extreme interest, I just don't know how to tap it and need to focus money I would use on marketing elsewhere. I am including in this estimate sales from Etsy and wholesale account. My guesstimate is that you could do minimal advertising and get up to at least 5 sales a month pretty easily.

Business Expenses

My expenses include:
-Domain name
-Business e-mail
-Shopify site + fees
-Etsy fees
-Blog fees (I think you may as well eliminate this)
-Inventory: fabric, supplies for kits, kit boxes
-Trying out new products
-Any advertising you may want to do
-Shipping (purchased through and discounted through Shopify and Etsy)
-If you don't have space at home to keep inventory, you'll need a space. My space is about 20' x 20'
-Your own fabric cutting and sewing supplies (e.g., scissors, cutting mat, sewing machine, iron, printer, etc.) (not included in this sale. I am including inventory that you'll need to make kits only).

Inventory warehouse

I am doing an evaluation of my current inventory. I have inventory to make kits of all the quilts on the site. Inventory truly includes everything you need to get going from day one. That was the bulk of the work for this business - figuring out where to obtain stuff, where to get it cheapest, and actually ordering it. Once you have the foundation, you just order more on an as-needed basis. Once I have completed evaluating inventory, I will update the amount here as it's just an approximation.

For a full-price offer I will include shipping of inventory for free. It's quite a bit of stuff - bolts of fabric, templates, and supplies to include inside kits.

How can the future owner improve the business?

I am not a marketer, and hate marketing. I have done a ridiculously minimal amount of advertising for this company, and I'm angry with myself for it. So, a future owner has really nothing to do to improve it except market it. I also feel like better pictures of the completed quilts would be ideal - the existing pics don't do them justice. They are beautiful and high-quality.

You could also design new lines of related products (FUN!!).

You could sell at crafts fairs, local events, etc. I have not explored this possibility except that I applied to a juried craft fair and was accepted.

You could explore wholesale accounts at local, national and online retailers. I applied to a major reseller to do wholesale and was accepted. They have had success selling the product (almost sold out on their website).

What work have you put into the store?

I have built an online following, designed new quilts, established a wholesale relationship with a major seller. I have made sure that there is 100% client satisfaction and outstanding customer service, so every buyer has been happy. I have found easy sources for the materials for the kits. I've put in a lot!
