Why this business was started

I was interested in creating another stream of income, and I ultimately decided on a e-commerce dropshipping business since I've successfully run one before. I browsed various dropshipping sites, and I came upon a site that sold paint by number kits. I did pretty extensive Google Trends and keyword research, and found the search volume to rather large and the relative amount of competition to be fairly low which tends to be the recipe for a good niche.

The reason of selling this business

I have several businesses, and I want to focus my time on fewer businesses. Because sales have increased dramatically over the last few weeks, I thought it was a good time to sell so I can take the proceeds and apply them toward my new business which is a capital intensive mobile app business.

What's involved in running this business

I've automated as much as possible with this business which limits the amount of time needed to run the business. For example, automation does quite a bit of autoposting to social media. Activities include but are not limited to posting new products, processing new orders, getting approvals for custom paint by number kits (much of this process has been automated), and customer service. Most of the customer service happens through chat or e-mail. We utilize the free version of Hubspot to manage this as it keeps everything documented.

    How to grow this business

    I would suggest focusing on SEO to build more organic traffic. Without any effort, our organic traffic has grown about 1,717% from last year. We have just started outsourcing a link building campaign, so we expect that to improve significantly over the next couple of months. I would also grow the affiliate marketing channel as well. We have started to add some affiliates that are performing really well, and since the affiliate payments are performance-based, they are much more profitable than paid advertising. At this point in time, we do not do ANY paid advertising. We would also look to add additional vendors. We would also look to grow our social media following in particular on Instagram and Pinterest.

    Skills to have

    New owner should have basic knowledge around art and painting (terms, tools, etc.) It would be helpful for them to have basic SEO and social media marketing skills. However, we can share the vendor we are using for SEO. Knowledge of Hubspot is also helpful to run the customer service portion of this store. However, the product is very to use. Because of the automations that we have implemented, the store is very turnkey to run. We also have training videos we have created on much of the basics around running this store.
