I started the Kelapa shop in 2015 to sell state of the art organic foods imported from Bali. Initially the shop was set up to sell 3 products on the French market :
- A sports hydration drink made from coconut water (Coco Hydro Sport)
- Organic and fair trade coconut sugar
- Organic raw cacao
The website has been very effective and I have managed to build a customer base from scratch (over 1000 leads and over 500 very happy and loyal customers).
As my relationship with my supplier in Bali degraded, I had to expand my product range and found some new products to sell.
Today, I have successfully implemented a range of medicinal mushrooms (by Four Sigmatic) and water structuring bottles (Flaska) that are starting to take off. I am the only company in France that sells Four Sigmatic and because of this, there is a greater conversion rate in France compared to the corporate site (my shipping costs are lower).
In terms of SEO, I come up in the 1st page of Google when looking for raw cacao
on the 1st page of YouTube when searching for coconut sugar. The website is a goldmine of blog articles, e-guides and interesting content that could be used for other health food or sports nutrition companies. I wrote a specific detox guide with a landing page on mailchimp and a load of personalised emails for a detox plan that you could easily reuse. All you have to do is to personalise the guide with the new product listings.
My customer base was particularly interested in hydration drinks and if you have a product that is an alternative to the coconut water powder I used to offer, I have a ton of customers who are searching for a healthy alternative.
The website was initially an in-house job where my inventory is stored locally but you can easily transfer it to drop shipping or keep the stock in your own home (does not take up too much space).
I'm selling the store because it was a side hustle and I've found a new job, I need to move on. It's been a great ride, I learned a ton, and definitely well worth the effort.
The website is in French so if you're wishing to launch in France, it's a great platform. You can also translate it into english easily with the translation app that Shopify offers.
Why should someone buy this store?
It's a great stepping stone for anyone interested in beginning with something well presented, in French and with an existing and loyal customer base.
How can the future owner improve the business?
Expanding the product offer : it's as simple as that.
I also have a list of potential suppliers that would be able to propose coconut sugar and raw cacao at a very interesting price.
What work have you put into the store?
Countless health and wellness blog articles that can be updated to fit with your product (and translated into English)

Imogen B.Running this business for about 4 years
I'm a half English, half French. I have been an entrepreneur for the past 15 years running family businesses. I'm fascinated by the Internet and a true social media geek and I enjoyed setting up this website so much it really shows.
I've now found a new job and can't take care of this website anymore. I would be so sad if everything I set up went to waste. There's a solid and loyal customer base who's just longing for the stocks to replenish and not too much work to get things going again.
