I wanted to jump on the beard trend and establish my company early. At the time beards were still a new trend and I could only find a few Beard Companies that were well established. Looking further into the idea I could see Google was showing a strong upward trend in searches. This trend continues to grow year after year with over 1,000,000 monthly google searches including beard related keywords.

Building this company has been a life changing experience. I have invested profits earned into several other ideas. These ideas are paying off and I would like to focus more on them.

I spend 30-40 hours per week working on this business. This includes producing all products, fulfillment, marketing, and management. This time can be reduced greatly by hiring one part-time employee.

I have also considered using a third party to produce products and a fulfillment center. This would reduce the time required to only a few hours per week. There is enough space in the profit margins to make this feasible.

    How to grow this business

    Influencer and email marketing have been extremely successful, much better than any other marketing we have tried so far. Sometimes offering 15-20 times return on ad spend. We have strong relationships with many influencers in the beard niche. These influencers continue to grow their audience bringing in new customers with every promotion. This in turn helps our email list to grow bringing in even more opportunity. YouTube has been our focus with dozens of great reviews keeping a steady flow of sales coming in month after month.

    To further grow the business, I plan to add an exclusive scent of the month subscription. We currently have some monthly subscribers but increasing this number is a priority. I also plan to add a more expensive collectors’ box to the website to bring up the average price of every sale.

    We do not use any ad spend at this time. Adding retargeting campaigns would help increase sales.

    My main marketing focus for 2020 is to produce high quality video content. Videos can go viral quickly bringing in tons of revenue.

    Skills to have

    The business is well established so not much needs to be done to maintain. It will grow at a certain percentage organically with what I have already accomplished.

    If you want the business to grow exponentially being able to live the bearded lifestyle (or hire a spokesman) and have a social media presence would help. Marketing skills especially experience with email marketing would help. I currently do not use ads of any kind but being able to run ad campaigns could help scale the business. Being able to communicate effectively with the brand affiliates we have in place is a must.

    (Third Party Valuation at 1.4M) This started as a joke between a bearded friend and me. It took several months to finalize logo’s, labels, build a website, etc. I finally made my first sale in May of 2016. For the next year I did not take the business very seriously. By May of 2017, the business seemed to be picking up steam organically. We had started a Facebook group but not much else to promote sales.
