Business Story

Why this business was started

We started selling latte blends and then transitioned into flavoured coffee. The initial idea started when I was inspired by the trend of colourful lattes (beetroot, turmeric, velvet, etc). I wanted to explore this trend and create new and different flavours, like raspberry and coconut latte, for example. Our lattes first started as healthy coffee alternatives and now are marketed as a bit of a treat. After that we noticed that with the name Latte we had the opportunity to expand into coffee, a bigger market. As the identity of the business is to have interesting flavours we added delicious flavoured coffee.

Our products are also currently being sold at 5 different cafes/ shops throughout New Zealand with good potential to expand. We would suggest selling bulk bags to cafes and selling the smaller pouches to shops. One of the cafes is a recurring customer (for the latte blends, not coffee).

This is a great business because:

  • You will have the option to sell unique products as well as the coffee;
  • You will have your own brand;
    • It is not dropshipping and products cannot be found anywhere else;
  • The products can be easily made by you and are also easy to outsource;
  • Light and easy to ship;
  • All products have barcodes and are already being sold in stores.
  • Good potential to add related products;
  • Great potential as a wholesale business.

The price asked covers pretty much the design that was done last year. It's definitely possible to scale this business, I just don't have the time and headspace right now.

The reason of selling this business

I work full time and honestly don't have the time to fully dedicate to this business. I had never run online businesses before and I guess I didn't know exactly how much time it would require. I stopped doing any type of advertising a few months ago - we still sell a few items here and there but the numbers do not reflect the full potential of the business.

What's involved in running this business

Making the products (os repackaging them for the flavoured coffee), shipping the product, keeping records for NP3 council plan (or any food requirements in your area - you will need to register as a food business if in NZ), ordering supplies when necessary, product development for new items, online marketing (fb, google, email), post on social media, content creation, customer service, contacting cafes and possible stockists, working with influencers would be a great thing to do as well and I'd definitely recommend focusing on wholesale as well.

    Seller‘s Advice

    How to grow this business

    I see different options for this business - possibly turn it into a breakfast boutique and add a variety of stylish items or to keep it as is focusing on drinks and invest more in different products/ flavours, marketing and wholesale.

    Skills to have

    Marketing skills would be important.
