Business Story

Why this business was started

Since I am an activewear buyer at a major retailer, and my brother (Leyland's co-founder) is a professional athlete for Nike, we both have a passion for activewear that we wanted to help share with the world. We started Leyland as an online, curated shop for activewear that we bought wholesale. This means product that other companies produced, that we would buy at their wholesale price, usually 50-60% of retail price, and then sell it at msrp under our branding, like a mini Nordstrom, Shopbop, or Tuckernuck. This really helped to establish our desired brand, because we would only feature high quality product with an interesting story, like a made in Maine or New England aspect, female owned, Maine college alumni founded, etc.

The reason of selling this business

We have decided to sell because my brother is now training for the olympics full -time, and I am approaching the end of my MBA, so we both have new chapters of our lives and careers approaching.
