Why this business was started

I started Little Citizens because I saw a gap in the market for smart and fun toys that have our children's best interest at heart. Too many toys overstimulate our children and what kid's need are toys that stimulate their imagination and match their innate sense of curiosity. We also discovered so many independent genius designers making toys and totally under represented on the high street. When we started we described what we wanted to do like the antithesis of Toys R Us and now they're out of business and we were recently voted 2nd Best Toy Store in the UK after Hamley's beating Disney and Harrods.

The reason of selling this business

We're in a super exciting and growing industry, the business is ready to be scaled. The groundwork is done and my passion is in beginnings, I have been headhunted to bring know how to museums and I want more time to work on my writing. I am happy to stay on and consult and help Little Citizens grow.

What's involved in running this business

Fulfilling orders, creating content for marketing to old and new customers, buying stock, uploading new products, running advertising campaigns. We have not advertised much and with some knowhow you can really scale the business. Also there is an opportunity to set up more drop shipments so you don't have the responsibility of fulfilling orders.

    How to grow this business

    I would be looking to white label own products, building relationships with dropshippers, continue to grow bestsellers, advertise to build funnel of new customers, get editorial PR and influencers to talk about Little Citizens, write and update blog, newsletter and social media and get ready for Christmas when you can make 70% of turnover. Open popup shops at Christmas.
