Why this business was started

When I started Love Street back in 2013, I honestly had no idea it would end up here. I created it with the intention of building a one-stop shop for all things dreamy and simplistic - a collection that reflected not only my own personal style, but a style that many could relate to. The industry can be noisy and overcrowded, so I wanted to create something that differs from the rest. I think my unique content and overall brand imagery allowed me to do just that. Little did I know that so many women from around the world would express such interest in my collection and even start to feel inspired by it.

Love Street quickly became known for its dreamy aesthetic, unique content and quality sourced goods that has attracted a huge social media following (organically) and loyal customer base throughout the years. Having been built from the ground up and ran by me (a solopreneur), the time has come to finally allow my company the growth it has always been capable of!

The reason of selling this business

I started the business at a young age and since then many of my interests have changed. My husband and I made the decision to start a new business together in which all of my time and focus has been invested towards our new company.

I am still extremely passionate about retail and have considered rebranding this company to better align with some of my interests, however we are transitioning to the outdoor apparel industry which this company does not have the demographic for. It is doing very well as it is and it would be a shame to change what Love Street truly is and what it has grown to be.

What's involved in running this business

You’ll start by sourcing products from a variety of different vendors and brands, building a collection consistent to Love Street’s style guide. My list of resources will be included in the sale, which will include various online marketplaces for thousands of products (clothing, accessories, shoes, beauty products, etc) to resell at a 40-70% profit margin as well as a list of suggested brands to source from.

You also have the opportunity to build and design your OWN label (whether you have experience in fashion design or not). This would allow you to transition to a wholesale business model (while still offering direct to consumer), opening your door to a whole new market. I can provide a list of recommended manufacturers to make this happen!

We currently manage inventory, order fulfillment and consolidation services out of our own warehouse. I have two employees assisting in shipping/fulfillment + managing returns, however it is possible to either manage these tasks on your own, or outsource fulfillment services, this would reduce expenses tremendously. It is my recommendation to outsource fulfillment, inventory management and consolidation to reduce expenses and free up time, this would also make the transfer of the business much more seamless. Depending on the preference of the buyer, I am willing to make these changes before the sale as I have connections with a trusted fulfillment company.

Our consistent brand imagery has been a huge part of our success and is the reasoning behind our large social media following. I photograph all products and create all the social media content myself and would be willing to continue with this role as a paid freelance photographer for up 3 months after the transaction, after that I can send you my list of references (if needed) for photographers, models, content creators and stylists.

So you have a collection built, photographed and listed online - now what? Instagram and email marketing is currently the only platforms being utilized at this time, and products go FAST. Collections are shared in IG stories and posts are made to announce new arrivals or restocks. It is recommended to explore various other marketing strategies to further grow the business. It will also be important to ensure that enough inventory is on hand to meet customers demands and that new products + restocks arrive consistently, an area where I have been falling short due to lack of time.

You’ll also need to keep your customers happy, Love Street has been known for its personable and happy email support! I will include a customer support guideline and email templates in the sale so you know exactly how to respond to customers and resolve any customer of their issues from the very start.

Other details about profit: Profit depends entirely on how much stock you have ready to sell. Our numbers currently reflect very little inventory we've had on hand over the past year due to lack of time in sourcing new goods. It also reflects overhead costs (such as our warehouse rent) which you will not be responsible for once the business transfers to you. Profit can be easily increased due to our high inventory turnover rate.

I will assist in managing customer support for up to one month after the transaction (if needed) to allow you to familiarize yourself with our support systems, and I will also commit myself to being available to answer your questions through email 7 days a week with fast response times for up to 3 months after the transfer. I will make sure to provide you with all the crucial details to continue running the store and to help it grow during this time.

    How to grow this business

    Love Street’s growth potential is huge. Even with the intention of scaling down and minimizing our inventory, I’ve been able to generate revenue with very little marketing efforts due to our large social media following (440K Instagram followers and 1.2 million viewers on Pinterest) and our fast growing email subscriber list (50k+ subscribers).

    The company would benefit greatly from someone willing to dedicate the time to sourcing new products and building a larger collection to meet our customers demands. Investing in various marketing strategies that have yet to be explored such as SEO, Pinterest and Facebook Ads as well as influencer marketing would scale the growth tremendously. Our current bottom line is nothing in comparison to what it could be.

    I recommend familiarizing yourself with every aspect of the business in which you can then starting delegating each of the tasks. With every task such as product sourcing, customer support, marketing, PR, creative direction, etc. passed down to someone else, you can have a business that is completely automated and running like clock work, which means more free time for you in the end! With the right team, I believe Love Street can turn into something huge.

    Building a private label / custom brand would allow you to transition to a wholesale business model, which would bring about new ways to generate cash flow by offering both wholesale and direct to consumer.

    Flipping is also an option, you would just need to focus on expansion, strengthening some of my weak points and increasing profits to grow the overall valuation of the business.

    Skills to have

    Love Street is known for its unique aesthetic and needs a creative individual with the ability to forecast trends in order to keep things consistent. Sourcing the right products and building a uniquely curated collection of goods is key in order to continue creating a brand that differs from the rest. Unless you are planning on hiring an experienced buyer, it is highly recommended to have experience in the fashion industry or a good sense of style.

    I would personally love to see someone who values the environment and continues to improve my efforts in becoming a more sustainable clothing brand. I believe sustainability + the willingness to adapt in a changing world is imperative for long term success. Consumers in this day and age are starting to determine WHO exactly they want to support and WHY. I can connect you with manufacturers with a focus on being sustainable and ethical!

    If you are looking to build a private label / custom line, fashion design is obviously a plus however there are many manufacturing companies who are willing to assist newbies in this area. All you need is an idea and they will help execute those ideas you have in mind!
