Business Story

Why this business was started

We purchased this starter business in 2017 as from personal experience we valued the service it provided to customers in need of products that were low in salt, products that are hard to find through other retail outlets. We also liked that the business could be run part time from home which offered lots of flexibility and kept costs down.

    Seller‘s Advice

    How to grow this business

Health experts agree that Australians consume far too much salt (sodium chloride) in their diet. Excessive salt intake has been linked to heart disease, high blood pressure, fluid retention, stroke and many other health conditions. It is also considered to be a trigger of the vertigo associated with some vestibular (balance) disorders such as Meniere’s Disease. All Australians can benefit from a diet lower in salt and yet truly low salt products (120mg sodium per 100gm) are hard to find - so the potential customer base for the business is huge. The next steps to grow the business are greater marketing and increasing the search for low salt products

    Skills to have

Basic computer literacy Some knowledge of financial record keeping

    Anne M.Current store owner
It was after Anne was diagnosed with Meniere’s Disease that she and Marie began a journey to adopting a low salt diet. However finding low salt foods, especially processed and convenience foods, proved to be a real challenge. So they were delighted when they chanced upon the small online business ‘Low Sodium Foods’. From the 1st April 2017, they went from being Low Sodium Foods’ customers to the owners of the business! As the new owners, they have been committed to further developing the business and offering a friendly and efficient service
