Why this business was started

I had been diagnosed with breast cancer back in 2019 so didn't work throughout my treatment for 8 months. I then had some contract work but really felt I wanted to do something for myself with a better work life balance. So we had been considering dropshipping for some time and I had completed an online course so it seemed the right time. Plus myself and my husband wanted to see if we could generate additional income. We thought dropshipping was worth a try. I also love Christmas and was excited to source all of the Christmassy items. I found that the people interacting with the store are positive and enthusiastic, and that makes it a pleasure. There also weren't many Christmas stores online. We decided to sell mainly using facebook advertising and social media.

We have another store which is also quite seasonal and managing the 2 is a bit much during the busy times.

Other details about profit: The store is not active Jan to June and then ramps up towards Christmas. November being the busiest month so monthly average profit doesn't look as attractive because it has idle months. So in November we had 70 orders. Between July and December 117 orders. Average order value is £22, returning customers 11%

      Most suppliers have been sourced via Alieexpress, and these will change year on year as new trends mean different products and generally new suppliers. With the chinese suppliers we have focused on those that have the shortest delivery lead times. There are some UK sourced companies used. Prodigi are the print on demand supplier we use for some products. The buyer will need to set up an account with Prodigi if they wish to continue using this supplier. Other UK suppliers are Puckator, Something Different Dropshipping and Personalised Momento Company for all the personalised items.

    How to grow this business

    Sourcing great products that can be delivered quickly is the key. I would also consider opening up sales to other parts of Europe or the US. Sourcing more companies with fast lead times will definitely be of benefit, particularly if they are based in the same country as the target market e.g. UK suppliers for UK customers.

    Facebook Marketing knowledge would be useful.
