Why this business was started

I created this business to generate an extra income along with my full-time employment . It was one of my best decisions! I have chosen this niche because from my point of view and financial numbers worldwide, is a never ending niche. Everyone needs a backpack for school, work or travel. The main sale channel for most of the orders is Google Search Ads. We have over 2000 orders and multiple very large wholesale orders. For the last 2 years our website is constantly on position 1 or 2 on Google for the brand name. This is how we are getting daily orders without paying a penny on ads.

The reason of selling this business

To be straight forward, our main focus is on a second business that we own and try to grow. The other business that we run is in the home decor industry with local suppliers which generates more profit due to high ticket products. Mark Ryden global needs very little time to run but we simply do not have the time to focus on both. We feel sorry to let the business go, but we can use the money to invest in the new business.

Also, there a few competitors selling the same products under the same brand but this apparently doesn't stop our customers to buy from us. We used to have stock in the UK in order to offer faster shipping rather than dropshipping from China and EU, but the cost was a bit to high and we kept going with dropshipping the products. The profit was the same and less headache.

What's involved in running this business

All the traffic and sales come organically from Google, we are on position 1-2 on first page with the keyword "Mark Ryden backpack" and similar. We spend 2-3 hours per week running the business by responding to customer emails and fulfilling the orders. Most products are being shipped from China but also EU so customers are asking to be updated with the tracking information.

Fulfilling the orders: we use an app that automatically generates an Excel file with the orders you select to add to this file. Then the file is send to the supplier via WeChat and they send it back filled with the price per product, tracking numbers and total cost. All orders are being paid everyday via Aliexpress. We place a pending order which the supplier updates with the correct total price. Wholesale orders usually are being paid via Alibaba, the supplier has an account there.

Pretty much that's it with customer support and fulfilling orders. Once a month we check if the supplier created new products and we add them into our store. Every now and then we check everything goes smoothly with the website, making some changes and adjusting prices if necessarily.

Other details about profit: The profit is after all expenses such us product cost and subscriptions of Shopify and apps. We do not have any advertising cost because our orders come are organically from Google. There is additional profit from bulk orders that are being paid usually via bank transfer by our business customers. This numbers are not shown in Shopify. Kindly note, the profit is organic, simply just keeping the store running. The revenue was higher last year due to being with a position above our competitor, but because we stopped working on our SEO, they outranked us and sales dropped. To outrank them again ,you need some fresh content, like a few blogs and backlinks. All this can be achieved by paying someone from Fiverr, shouldn't cost more than $50-$100, but investing in SEO more, will only benefit you.

    How to grow this business

    To grow the store you should start advertising the brand and products on Social Media, Google and YouTube. For the last 2 years we are getting our sales organically from Google, so going with paid ads will be increasing the revenue. If you wonder why we are not doing this ourselves, the simple answer is that all our advertising budget goes to our second business.

    Skills to have

    It would be recommended to have some knowledge in online marketing, in particular - Facebook ads and Google Ads. But these skills can be self-taught and in little time.
